This week we have an inspiring guest, celebrity interior designer and now author Jake Arnold. He arrived alone in the US just over 10 years ago with $1500 in his pocket, an unpaid internship in Los Angeles and a dream of becoming an interior designer. What has unfolded since then is an amazing story of steadfast determination, a rock solid work ethic, and an openness to all possibilities which has resulted in dream projects, major retail collaborations, a new online design interface that has exploded in popularity and a recent book with publisher Rizzoli. We chatted about taking risks, managing success, approaching the design business on his own terms and what is to come with his successful online design consultation service and marketplace, The Expert. Jake also talks about redesigning one of Southampton’s most esteemed estates, a brick mansion built by Grosvenor Atterbury at the turn of the century, which is no small task in an area dedicated to traditional cedar shingle homes.
