The Buffalo Bills rolled the Kansas City Chiefs as they have come to do in the regular season and even though it was led by Josh Allen firmly outdueling Patrick Mahomes, the Bills still sit behind the New England Patriots and still have yet to knock off the Chiefs when it matters most, in the postseason. That leaves something still left to prove. In the NFC North there were two massive upsets that can change the division. The Green Bay Packers once again showed their ugly side with a bad loss to the scrappy Carolina Panthers and the Detroit Lions got cooked by a fabulous return performance from Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy. With a Chicago Bears wild comeback win over the Cincinnati Bengals added into the mix, the NFC North looks like it will be a wild ride to the finish. Finally, on Sunday Night Football, the Washington Commanders lost more than the game as Jayden Daniels appeared to have a serious injury. For how wonderful everything broke for the Commanders last season, it is going the opposite in 2025. The Seattle Seahawks dominated the game and continue to look like a well-balanced team in the NFC West.
Josh Allen out-dueled Patrick Mahomes as the Buffalo Bills pick up a huge win. The Green Bay Packers lose at home to Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers and the Broncos and Patriots CONTINUE their winning ways. What a weekend of football in the NFL!
We look at the Indianapolis Colts looking to keep things rolling vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs battling in an AFC Championship rematch and more.
On Halloween, the AFC should be terrified of a new and improved Baltimore Ravens team after they dismantled the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football and have a great chance to get back into the playoff chase after a tough start. Like wise, Mike McDaniel should be scared of losing his job after the constant meltdowns on the sidelines and the field. The best matchup of the week comes with the Buffalo Bills hosting the Kansas City Chiefs and while Buffalo has had success against the Chiefs in the regular season before, the Chiefs are playing too well to take down right now. The Indianapolis Colts are also playing too well to stop right now and they should be able to cover the -3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Drake Maye has also looking unstoppable for the New England Patriots and they should cover the -5.5 against an Atlanta Falcons team that is not playing their best currently. The Houston Texans host the Denver Broncos and while the Broncos are sitting pretty at 6-2, the Texans are ready to pull the upset. Finally, the Chicago Bears took a bad loss to the Lamar Jackson-less Baltimore Ravens last week, but with the Cincinnati Bengals expected to miss Joe Flacco, the Bears should be able to bounce back.
Aidan Hutchinson's $180 million extension with the Detroit Lions sets a new standard for edge rushers, but the timing reveals Brad Holmes' masterclass in roster management.
The Baltimore Ravens sit at 2-5, but now will get Lamar Jackson back in the fold with a game against the Miami Dolphins ahead on Thursday Night Football. If Jackson can lead the Ravens to victory they are firmly back in the race in the AFC. The Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills play in the game of the week and it is a matchup that should give us some answers as to what is real between these two teams. The Denver Broncos and Houston Texans also face off and it's a game that could tell the truth about two teams whose records don't match the feeling about each squad. The Indianapolis Colts have been the best team in the NFL and now they face a skidding Pittsburgh Steelers team that is looking at losing control over their season. Finally, the New England Patriots have surprised this year and now the Atlanta Falcons will have to try to get back on track against the league's best run defense which could mean problems for Bijan Robinson.
The Baltimore Ravens got a massive win over the Chicago Bears in Week 8 and now will get Lamar Jackson back into the fold. With the state of the AFC North, Baltimore has a great chance to get back into the AFC race and ultimately, still achieve their goals on the season. The Houston Texans have also climbed their way back in, but will need to battle for a wild card spot as the Indianapolis Colts aren't slowing down. In the NFC, the Minnesota Vikings sit at 3-4, but now get JJ McCarthy back at quarterback for their stretch run while the Atlanta Falcons hope to get Michael Penix back and boost their run game against the stingy New England Patriots. Finally, the New Orleans Saints are finally going to rookie Tyler Shough and it makes you wonder if the Cleveland Browns will ever give Shedeur Sanders a chance as Dillon Gabriel continues to struggle.
The Kansas City Chiefs are heating up in a big way as Patrick Mahomes dominated the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football. With a full complement of weapons at their disposal, the Chiefs look like the old version of themselves and that should have the NFL worried. In the AFC West, the Denver Broncos still lead over the Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers, but Denver is set to miss Patrick Surtain for 4-6 weeks and it could be enough to change the standings. The Chiefs play the Buffalo Bills next and the Bills are looking up in their division as well as Drake Maye and the New England Patriots continue to dominate an easy schedule. Finally, in the NFC, the West with the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks remains the best division in football and the NFC North features the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions battling for the top.
The Green Bay Packers went in to Pittsburgh and stomped the Steelers as Jordan Love outdueled Aaron Rodgers, but the Steelers porous defense continues to be the biggest issue in the Steel City. The NFC looked to be the tougher conference through seven weeks of the NFL season, but Week 8 exposed a few teams for the frauds they are. Like the Chicago Bears, who fell to the Baltimore Ravens 30-16 even without Lamar Jackson in the lineup. The Dallas Cowboys also got rolled by the Denver Broncos reminding us they are not to be taken seriously. Similarly, the New York Giants are officially done after getting handled by the Philadelphia Eagles and dropping to 2-6. In the NFC South, two teams we thought could be interesting, the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers, both got absolutely whooped in their games in Week 8. Even with backup quarterbacks in, it would be hard to see the outcomes being significantly different.
Thursday Night Football between the Los Angeles Chargers and Minnesota Vikings was over from the start as Justin Herbert mowed down the home team as Carson Wentz continued to struggle. The Baltimore Ravens will get Lamar Jackson back at quarterback this weekend, but they are in a deep hole at 1-5 and must win against the Chicago Bears if they hope to keep their season alive. Baltimore should be able to win, but the Bears are rolling and should keep it close. The San Francisco 49ers also have dealt with a ton of injuries, but Kyle Shanahan has them playing great ball and getting points at home against the Houston Texans is too good to pass up. Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos got a crazy comeback win in Week 7, but the Dallas Cowboys offense is hot and they should be able to keep it a close game to the finish. Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers take on his former team the Green Bay Packers. The Packers may be a better team, but the Steelers getting points at home is a great value. Finally, the Indianapolis Colts are playing like the best team in the NFL and now they take on potentially the worst in the Tennessee Titans. It is a BIG spread, but you have to take the Colts in this one.
The Los Angeles Chargers have now lost three straight games after opening the season with three straight wins and are on the verge of panic mode. A loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday Night Football would certainly bring that panic to its height. The Vikings on the other hand are in panic mode while watching Carson Wentz, who is set for another start. Week 8 features some last chance games with the Baltimore Ravens needing to save their season against the Chicago Bears and the New York Giants looking to bounce back from an epis collapse as they take on the Philadelphia Eagles for the second time. Finally, Aaron Rodgers will look to taste revenge once more as he heads to face the Green Bay Packers while the Dallas Cowboys look to stay hot against the Denver Broncos.
The NFL has a strong middle class so far this year, but the question remains as to whether any of these teams are actually good enough to make some noise in the winter. First, the Dallas Cowboys offense is scorching hot with Dak Prescott and his two elite receivers, but is the defense respectable enough for it to matter? The Carolina Panthers are the sneakiest team in the NFL with a winning record, but this Bryce Young injury could derail the momentum. The Los Angeles Chargers defensive magic seems to be gone as well and Justin Herbert may not be enough to keep them afloat while the Washington Commanders can't seem to keep Jayden Daniels healthy. Finally, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons are both very talented teams, but they can't seem to get out of their own way when it actually matters.
