Episode #10 What is love really?

Today on the podcast joe and Lashanda Talk about the meaning of love.

What is Love?

Merriam-Webster

  • strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties
  • attraction based on sexual desire: affection and tenderness felt by lovers
  • affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests

Ideapod says: “But the main characteristics of romantic love are craving: an intense craving to be with a particular person, not just sexually, but emotionally. It would be nice to go to bed with them, but you want them to call you on the telephone, to invite you out, etc., to tell you that they love you.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-5: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs."

Exercise

"When I say 'I love you,' I mean..."

Joe and Shanda take turns

What are things that can effect the way we understand those words?

  • Being raised in a home where those words arent said
  • Watching too much TV
  • Traumatic experiences by those who have said this and done another thing

Psychology today

  • Love is bigger than you are. You can invite love, but you cannot dictate how, when, and where love expresses itself. You can choose to surrender to love or not, but in the end, love strikes like lightning: unpredictable and irrefutable. You can even find yourself loving people you don't like at all. Love does not come with conditions, stipulations, addenda, or codes. Like the sun, love radiates independently of our fears and desires.

EPISODE #8 Baggage Claim

Hey there! Today we are talking about Baggage, what it is and it's effects on relationships.

What is baggage?

Baggage- Bringing the old stuff into the new.

Baggage can be cultural expectations, family history, past relationships,

Everybody has baggage it all depends on how you respond and deal with the baggage you bring.  I think its important to know that.

What are signs that you or your spouse is carrying baggage

  1. Comparing your now to yesterday’s
  2. Traditional Expectations and their influence
  3. Insecurity / Paranoia
  4. Dark secrets/truths that you're reluctant to share
  5. Lack of commitment
  6. Control issues / Building walls
  7. Constantly having to prove yourself to your spouse

Ways to deal with baggage:

  1. Check it at the door! That communication bit comes into play have open dialogue about what happened, how it made you feel, and triggers
  2. Learn from the past
  3. Mental resolve (letting go of thoughts that your ex deserves)
  4. Let yourself completely heal (counseling, connect with a community that understands)
  5. Unpack things slowly but consistently
  6. Accept the things you can't change, the courage to change the things you can, wisdom to know the difference

Pay special attention to the way I form my criticism or advice in my

Strong Practical Skills – Consuls are excellent managers of day-to-day tasks and routine maintenance, enjoying making sure that those who are close to them are well cared for. Allowing my husband to lead. I can be strong-willed and stubborn as can he but understanding compromising in this situation.

Allowing him to time to meet and greet people even if this makes me uncomfortable. compromise.

Encourage them to be themselves, working at their own pace with strategic nudging in areas of opportunities

ESFJ’s   have a sense of wanting to belong so I encourage him to be his own person and understand he is accepted by God and  me

No matter what your personality is, whether you both are similar, or different, the relationship will require work

Couples need to face the fact that relationships require effort to keep them strong and positive, and that even wonderful, strong relationships can be destroyed by neglect.

SHOW NOTES:

Personality Types- Personality typing is a tool with many uses. It is helpful in the areas of growth and self-development is used as a tool for discovery, rather than as a method for putting people into boxes.

Who created the 16 personality types?

The sixteen personality types which we use in our assessment are based on the well-known research of Carl Jung, Katharine C. Briggs, and Isabel Briggs Myers. Carl Jung first developed the theory that individuals each had a psychological type.

Episode #5 Life & Balance

Hey, guys so today we will be talking about “balance” how do you manage your relationship, parenthood, work, and all the other things in life? Today we are going to talk about it. Join in for the conversation.

Solutions

  • Being intentional, having our priorities in order, and time management. Assessing what’s important together.
  • Travel...take time off and go somewhere….proactively schedule your time in advance and treat vacation just as seriously as you do work. (Examples - Hawaii, Florida, Wisconsin Dells)
  • Monthly date nights
  • Once a week self-care day: What that looks like? If you cant care for yourself and recharge you cant effectively care for others. Establish Boundaries
  • Communicate
  • Making sure we spend time with our children, doing game nights, cooking, and physical activities ( biking, playing catch)
  • Scheduling prayer with each other
  • Maintaining business goals by creating a To do list - Monthly, weekly
  • Depending on our team to help us. Dont do it all your self
