Free Style Thursday: Time Change • Halloween • SNAP

Tonight’s episode was spooky, sweet, and soul-stirring.

Ms. B and I had mad fun diving into the history of Halloween — from ancient traditions to today’s costumes, candy missions, and kids proudly knocking door-to-door showing off who they want to be for a night. We talked characters, childhood memories, and the magic of imagination — and Ms. B even encouraged the fam to check out haunted houses and Halloween events right here in Minnesota and across the country. Did you know Anoka, Minnesota is called the Halloween Capital of the World?

From Halloween treats to time shifts, we rolled right into Daylight Saving Time — falling back this Sunday at 2 AM. Ms. B isn’t a fan, and I don’t really mind it — but hey, who’s turning down an extra hour of sleep?

Then the tone shifted as we tackled real-life reality: SNAP benefits ending this Saturday, November 1, and the staggering truth that 42 million Americans rely on food assistance in the richest country on earth. A number that stopped us cold. Ms. B pointed to policy — or the lack of it — and we reflected on community, dignity, and the work still ahead.

It was the perfect Inner Circle mix — fun, laughter, culture, and real conversation that matters.

Tap into this high-energy, heartfelt episode filled with spooky vibes, sweet moments, and serious truths.

Who is your target market—and how do you stay connected?

Tonight’s business segment was packed with value as Abe and Ms. B broke down the importance of truly understanding your target market and staying intentionally connected to them. Abe emphasized that it all begins with the foundation — a clear business plan, a marketing plan, and a deep understanding of your why and purpose. When you know why you exist and who you serve, identifying your ideal customer becomes natural and your execution becomes focused.

Ms. B highlighted a key reality in our community: many of us are solopreneurs, and while that comes with passion and hustle, it also brings pressure. Her powerful message was that entrepreneurs can — and should — leverage AI tools to scale, create systems, and avoid burnout while staying meaningfully connected to their audience.

This was an engaging, practical, and empowering conversation filled with gems for both aspiring entrepreneurs and established business owners. A must-listen for anyone serious about building smarter, serving better, and growing stronger.

America’s Job Shock: Surviving the Corporate Layoff Era

Tonight’s episode was a somber yet deeply necessary conversation about the growing wave of corporate layoffs across America. Abe Kamara was joined in studio by Ms. B and Peterson from the Windy City of Chicago for an eye-opening discussion on the real-world consequences behind the headlines — families struggling to afford mortgages and rent, nonprofits stretched beyond capacity, and the growing fear that AI-driven innovations are leaving real people behind.

Together, we explored what survival looks like when job loss becomes the new normal — and how empathy, community, and resilience must lead the way. This episode reminds us that while corporations may cut costs, our humanity cannot be downsized.

Economic Outlook from a Practitioner’s Lens

This week’s Inner Circle Podcast business segment was one of our best yet! Host Abe Kamara sat down with his former Totino-Grace classmate, Pat Rehkamp, now Senior Financial Writer at 1834, the high-net-worth wealth management division of Old National Bank.

In this deeply insightful and practical conversation, Pat shared timeless financial wisdom for families and everyday professionals alike. From the importance of budgeting, saving, and tracking your net worth, to understanding the real forces shaping today’s economy, this episode offers lessons everyone can apply.

One of Pat’s most memorable gems? He and his wife hold monthly “money dates” — intentional check-ins about their finances, goals, and plans. It’s a simple yet powerful practice that couples, especially in immigrant families, can learn from and emulate.

The two also dove into timely topics like why mortgage rates may remain elevated, how the current unemployment rate may be misleading due to the government shutdown, and how consistent planning, communication, and financial discipline are the real keys to building generational wealth.

This episode is authentic, educational, and packed with real-world value — a must-listen for anyone ready to take control of their financial story.

The Oversharing Epidemic

In this eye-opening and thought-provoking episode, Abe and his co-host Peterson dive deep into The Oversharing Epidemic — a modern-day phenomenon where people share more than ever but feel lonelier than ever.

From social media confessions to public displays of private struggles, the hosts explore how oversharing has quietly reshaped relationships, mental health, and the meaning of connection in the digital age. Despite a world of eight billion people, genuine intimacy is fading behind screens.

One audience member chimed in with a powerful perspective that added depth and realness to the conversation, making the dialogue even richer. Together, Abe and Peterson emphasized the importance of finding balance — because, as with everything in life, too much of anything can become unhealthy.

An inspiring, informative, and awareness-driven episode reminding us that protecting our peace begins with protecting our privacy.

The Immigrant Vote: Why Our Voices Matter More Than Ever

This episode features a powerful and eye-opening conversation with former DFL candidate Erickson Saye, who joins Abe Kamara for a candid discussion about lessons learned from his recent campaign and what it truly takes to win in today’s political climate.

Erickson reflects on the hard truths of running for office — from the critical role money plays in campaigns to the reality that too many in our immigrant community remain on the sidelines. As he puts it, “If you don’t mess with politics, politics messes with you.”

Together, they explore why political participation is essential, how the major parties are missing the mark in engaging immigrant voters, and why local politics is where real change begins. This engaging and thought-provoking episode is both a wake-up call and a call to action — reminding every immigrant that our vote, our voice, and our civic power matter more than ever.

AI, Business, and the Future of Work: Who’s Getting Left Behind?

Tonight’s Business Wednesday episode of the Inner Circle Podcast was both inspiring and eye-opening as Abe Kamara and Ms. B explored the fast-evolving world of Artificial Intelligence — from its promise to its pitfalls.

Abe argued that AI has tremendous potential to help small businesses grow, streamline operations, and compete on a bigger stage, while Ms. B brought a critical lens — warning that technology could also displace workers, widen inequality, and change the job market forever.

The two dug into powerful examples of modern AI tools — ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, and more. Abe proudly called ChatGPT his favorite, joking that it’s “100 times smarter” than him and like “Google on steroids.” The friendly back-and-forth brought laughter, insight, and genuine curiosity as both hosts reflected on how technology is reshaping the business landscape.

This episode blended business, finance, and future-thinking — encouraging small businesses and entrepreneurs to embrace innovation without fear. Abe and Ms. B closed with a clear message: AI is the future, and no one should be left behind.

Tune in for a fun, intelligent, and forward-looking discussion that challenges, informs, and inspires.

The Insurance Game: Legalized Robbery or Necessary Evil

Tonight’s episode of the Inner Circle Podcast was nothing short of fire. Abe Kamara and his co-host Peterson from the Windy City of Chicago went all in on the truth about America’s insurance industry — from auto and health to homeowners and beyond.

Together, they unpacked how insurance companies have mastered the art of collecting premiums but dodging payouts, all while raking in billions in profit. Peterson spoke truth to power about how the system is rigged — where politicians are in the pockets of the very corporations meant to protect us, and where profit always comes before people.

Abe shed light on the skyrocketing cost of homeowners insurance in states like California and Florida, while Peterson compared it to Canada’s single-payer model — a system built on care, not capitalism.

This episode wasn’t just talk — it was lived experience, raw honesty, and a wake-up call for every working family paying into a broken system.

Tune in, think deeply, and ask yourself — are we being protected, or just played?

Shutdown Realities: What Happens When the Government Closes?

Tonight’s episode was filled with energy, insight, and real talk as Abe was joined by his regular Tuesday co-host, Peterson, straight from the Windy City of Chicago. We opened the show with “What’s on Our Mind,” diving into the intense immigration enforcement and crackdowns happening across the country. Peterson shared what it’s like on the ground in Chicago as ICE runs the streets and the Texas National Guard is deployed, adding a powerful local perspective to a national story.

From there, we turned our attention to the ongoing government shutdown, unpacking its impact on everyday Americans—from federal workers going without pay to ripple effects on the broader economy. We discussed how essential employees are already calling in sick, leading to early disruptions in air travel, and we challenged politicians from both parties to put aside partisan games and work together to reopen the government.

This was a thoughtful and lively conversation, blending national issues with personal perspectives. Abe and Peterson brought their signature lens, making sense of the headlines in a way that’s engaging, relevant, and empowering for our community.

Building Economic Futures: A Conversation with CAPI

Tonight’s Business Wednesday segment was nothing short of transformational and deeply inspiring. We sat down with Patricia Aguilar, Economic Empowerment Director at CAPI USA, to hear her extraordinary journey and the powerful work CAPI is doing in immigrant communities.

Patricia came to the United States just seven years ago from Venezuela — with no English, no family, no money, and no network — only her husband and son by her side. Through sheer determination, she enrolled in an adult English program, learned the language, discovered CAPI two years later, and today she leads CAPI’s Economic Empowerment Program, overseeing 21 employees. Her story is the embodiment of the immigrant spirit — resilience, grit, and hope.

We also explored how CAPI is making a tremendous impact, not only for immigrants but for the broader community, and how the transformational grant from MacKenzie Scott is helping them expand their reach and headquarters to serve even more people.

This conversation is a powerful reminder that dreams are built through courage and opportunity. Patricia’s journey is one for the ages — a true testament to what’s possible when communities support each other and when individuals refuse to give up.

From Victory to Service: Rep-elect Xp Lee’s First Steps as State Representative

Tonight’s episode was lit — a truly engaging and down-to-earth conversation with Rep. Xp Lee, Minnesota’s newest State Representative for District 34B.

We explored his legislative priorities and focus areas, including the pressing issues of housing affordability and the rising cost of living impacting families across the district. Rep. Lee shared reflections on his incredible journey — from arriving in the U.S. as a young refugee to now serving a diverse district in the Minnesota Legislature.

Having just been sworn in on Friday, he gave us an inside look at his first days of orientation and his commitment to learning before leading. He also revealed plans to host a town hall this fall, with more community forums to follow next year.

In a tied legislature, Rep. Lee emphasized the importance of reaching across the aisle and working with Republican colleagues to deliver meaningful results. We also tackled tough issues, including the fraud scandals that have stained state programs, with Rep. Lee addressing how he intends to help rebuild trust.

This was a policy-driven, insightful, and inspiring conversation that balanced substance with authenticity — a perfect introduction to Rep. Lee’s new chapter of service.

Culture Clash: Entertainment Then vs. Now

This episode was pure fun from start to finish with the ever-present Ms. B lighting up the studio! We kicked things off with her sharing her lively weekend adventures — from her daughter’s homecoming festivities to an unforgettable Indian wedding.

Abe followed up with his “What’s on My Mind” segment, touching on some serious national and local issues, and then Ms. B jumped in with her own hot topic: the current drama at Essence Magazine. The new owner is being accused of turning the annual Essence Festival in New Orleans into an “African” event rather than keeping its original African American flavor. That conversation flowed perfectly into tonight’s main topic:

The High Expectations of Women in Relationships

This Friday Social segment was pure fire — drama, bold opinions, heated debates, and unforgettable moments. I was joined in studio by Taylor-Made from Iowa, Winn, and Patience, and trust me, it got real.

Taylor-Made didn’t hold back, warning men not to date broke women, while Patience came swinging with her own take — saying once she leaves her house, her brain doesn’t function “money wise” because she expects her man to handle everything. The clash between Taylor-Made and Patience had the room sizzling as each passionately defended their turf.

I weighed in on the heavy financial pressures men face today, and Winn added her own sparks to the conversation. From laughter to jaw-dropping moments, this episode had it all — money, expectations, gender dynamics, and straight-up Friday night drama.

Immigrant Voices in Healthcare: Caring for Our Community, Our Way

Tonight’s Inner Circle Podcast was nothing short of powerful. Our guest, Carolyn Woahloe — Nurse Practitioner and Founder of CaroMas Healthcare Services — shared her remarkable immigrant journey filled with resilience, faith, and perseverance.

Carolyn took us back to 1997 when she first arrived in Minnesota from Liberia, later moving to Texas in 2001. She recounted how she started her career as a nursing assistant and, through determination and hard work, rose all the way to earn her master’s degree in nursing. Along the way, she credited her “MVP” — her incredible and supportive husband — for standing by her side as she pursued her ambitions.

Her story was real, raw, and inspiring. She opened up about the obstacles she’s faced — from overcoming doubts about her accent to moments of being looked down upon — and how she turned those challenges into fuel to keep going. Carolyn also spoke candidly about the struggles of entrepreneurship, proving that building something meaningful is never easy, but always worth it.

This conversation was full of wisdom, courage, and gems that remind us what it truly means to rise, to lead, and to care for our community our way. One of our finest shows yet.
