52: Everyday Courage with DeDe Halfhill

DeDe Halfhill is a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, Keynote Speaker, and Advisor helping leaders Master the Unseen™: the messy, human side of leadership most people avoid, but everyone feels.

She has spent 25 years leading teams through incredibly tough situations - advising the Commanding General in Iraq during intense combat operations, guiding the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs through some of the most turbulent moments of our time, and taking a front-row seat to countless high-stakes leadership decisions.

But the most important lessons she learned didn’t come from the high-stakes, dramatic moments. They came from the ordinary days, when she had to get real with herself, her teams, and what was quietly getting in their way.

Join me in one of the deepest conversations I've had about what it means to be courageous in our everyday lives and master the unseen.

51: Re-thinking Digital Communication with Tara Stewart

As a mother, Tara deeply understands the challenges parents face today when it comes to the decision about when to give your child a smartphone.

As she witnessed her children struggle to manage their digital habits, excessive screen time, and the troubling impact it had on their mental and social well-being an idea was was born out of that frustration and a desire for change.

Passionate about empowering parents and safeguarding families by creating technology that doesn’t addict, surveil, mislead, or demand, her first product, BE.connect, is a healthy smartphone alternative and the start of a line of tools designed to support humanity, not exploit it.

In this episode, Tara challenges us to rethink how we spend our time, how we communicate, and what it means to raise kids in a tech-driven world.

45: Sharenting & Protecting Children's Privacy Online with Sarah Adams

There’s no handbook to parenting in this new digital world, but we should prioritize our children and their right to digital privacy and safety over our desire for online popularity, believes child privacy advocate, Sarah Adams. Sarah is a firm believer that children have a right to privacy, informed consent, and online safety and she's been exploring the state of parental public oversharing, child exploitation and minor safety on social media since the summer of 2021.

Known as "mom.uncharted" on her socials, Sarah has a large and supportive community of like-minded adults who feel that the way parents are sharing their children online is concerning and that the platforms, governments and brands need to step up to protect a whole generation of children from growing up in the public eye without their knowledge or informed consent. Her goal has always been to pose questions, offer a different perspective and provide information, encouraging parents to reflect on their own sharing choices and accounts they are consuming that are using “kids as content”.

40: Scrolling 2 Death with Nicki Reisberg

After 15 years running a successful social media marketing business, Nicki Reisberg started to ask a few questions.  Why are people spending so much time on platforms that make them feel bad?  And most importantly, why are we letting our vulnerable children access addictive and harmful spaces online?

Our children are more hopeless, anxious, depressed and suicidal than they have ever been in recorded history. The research is clear - Social media is bad for kids.

We have to be diligent and clear in our work as a society united. We cannot let companies put their profits before children’s lives. One death is too many. Despite social media platforms like Snapchat and Meta knowing full well that their platforms instigate harm, they continue to plow ahead, making no significant changes to protect our children.

It is the mission of Scrolling 2 Death and the parent listeners to force change through kids online safety legislation and influencing a society shift to let our kids be kids, for as long as possible. That includes delaying smartphones and social media, and educating our children on the fact that they are a product to these companies and nothing more.
