En: The sounds of winter descended upon the grounds of the boarding school.

En: Outside, the cold wind lightly shook the tree branches, but inside the spirited haze of the auditorium, there was a moisture of excitement.

En: Today, Pieter and Annelize would face their own fears.

Af: Pieter was 'n stil en bietjie teruggetrokke seun.
En: Pieter was a quiet and somewhat withdrawn boy.

Af: Hy het altyd sy kitaar by hom gehad.
En: He always had his guitar with him.

Af: Dit was sy veilige hawe.
En: It was his safe haven.

En: Annelize, on the other hand, was full of life and energy.

Af: Sy het die verhoog liefgehad, maar as dit by sing gekom het, het sy allerhande koue rillings gekry.
En: She loved the stage, but when it came to singing, she got all sorts of cold shivers.

En: It was Youth Day, and the students had decided to hold a talent competition.

En: Banners with cheerful colors adorned the stage, and the atmosphere was warm and intimate as the rooms gathered in the cold season.

En: Under the school's loyal arms, everyday chatter was replaced with whispers about which talent would shine today.

En: He had decided to show off his guitar skills, but not alone.

En: He approached Annelize with an idea that could ease their nerves: a duet.

Af: Hy sou speel en sy sou sing.
En: He would play, and she would sing.

En: His voice and her bravery would go hand in hand.

En: In the days that followed, the two practiced during quiet time, sometimes giggling when Annelize tried to dispel her fear with jokes.

En: Pieter quietly smiled, his fingers almost a second nature on the strings.

Af: Toe die groot oomblik aanbreek, was die ouditorium oorvol.
En: When the big moment arrived, the auditorium was packed.

En: The audience fell silent as Pieter and Annelize took to the stage.

Af: Vir 'n oomblik het Pieter sy vingers amper laat glip, terwyl Annelize se stem in haar keel vassteek.
En: For a moment, Pieter almost let his fingers slip, while Annelize's voice caught in her throat.
