Af: In die middel van die winter, toe die bome kaal staan en 'n koue wind deur die Stellenbosch Botaniese Tuine waai, het Pieter diep asemgehaal.
En: In the middle of winter, when the trees stand bare and a cold wind blows through the Stellenbosch Botanical Gardens, Pieter took a deep breath.

Af: Hy was nog altyd gemaklik tussen die blomme en struike, maar vandag was anders.
En: He had always felt at ease among the flowers and shrubs, but today was different.

Af: Sy vriend Frans het hom oorreed om 'n tuinmaakwerkswinkel by te woon.
En: His friend Frans had persuaded him to attend a gardening workshop.

Af: Frans, altyd vol entoesiasme, het gemeen dat Pieter iemand met dieselfde liefde vir inheemse plante kon ontmoet.
En: Frans, always full of enthusiasm, thought that Pieter might meet someone with the same love for indigenous plants.
