Hey Everyone! In today's episode we are actually looking at a case that has not been decided on yet by the Supreme Court— US v. Skrmetti. It was argued less than a week ago before the justices and involves a potentially discriminatory Tennessee law.
This case will set precedent for future questions of transgender rights by determining if transgender individuals constitute a "quai-suspect qualification" necessitating the Intermediate Scrutiny standard. In looking at the oral arguments, the Justices brought up questions of standing and federalism, the matter of whether transgender athletes shall be allowed in competitive sports, and history of discrimination toward trans individuals.

Earlier this week, July 21st, President Biden formally announced that he will no longer be running for reelection in the 2024 election. This is an unprecedented act that has shaken up how this election is going to look. Backed by notable Democrats such as Former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, many do support his decision to step down.
Biden and other Democrats are now backing Kamala Harris, the current US Vice President, as the name that should be at the top of the ticket in November. More updates to come!

Hello All! Welcome to this new episode of Coffee Date with the Constitution. In this episode, we will be talking about a recent SCOTUS case that has rocked the nation. The case Students for Fair Admissions Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard College ended decades-long precedent, deeming affirmative action as unconstitutional and a violation of students' civil rights. This essentially means that universities can no longer use race as a factor in admissions processes. Today, I break down a bit of the oral arguments in this case, central points made by both the petitioners and respondents, and how schools and the country are attempting to move forward post-affirmative action.

Jackson Women's Health, and therefore, when they overturned Roe v. Wade (1973) and the right to abortion. In this episode, we review what the Dobbs case was, the negative effect that it has had on people around the US, and the Biden Administration's effort in mitigating those negative effects.

Jackson Women's Health Organization case and the subsequent overruling of landmark Supreme Court decisions such as Roe v. Wade (1973) and Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992) along with other related cases. We will be examining the oral arguments and the majority, concurring, and dissenting opinions from Dobbs which laid the framework for the overturning of Roe and Casey. Today I will be discussing a new court case that is making its way through the Supreme Court as we speak- a case that is causing much controversy because it is reexamining the subject of abortion rights in the United States. Additionally, we will be discussing several landmark SCOTUS cases- such as Griswold v Connecticut (1965) and Roe v Wade (1973)- that have shaped abortion laws over the past few decades. Lastly, I will be talking about the implications behind having new justices on the Supreme Court as well as the partisan divide regarding abortion in the 21st century.
