Seed Session Why a mindset matters #386

Hey everyone! In this episode, I discussed why having the right mindset matters. We have control over what we take in on a day-to-day basis. Since we have that control, why not decide to introduce more positivity into our lives? It takes much more energy to be negative than to be positive. There’s an old saying that the ancients used to share: it takes more muscles to frown than to smile. Some of us walk around with such furrowed brows that when we finally do have a good laugh, the muscles we haven’t used in a while can start to hurt our faces. So today, remember to take care of yourself and incorporate more positivity into your life. Have a great day!

#380 Seed Session What have I learned🤷🏾‍♀️

In this episode, I was asked a thought-provoking question: What have I learned? Reflecting on my grandson and the countless children who bravely face medical battles, I’m struck by their resilience. They often can’t voice their pain, yet somehow, they manage to smile and coo. My grandson, despite everything he endured, kept smiling until he could no longer muster the strength to do so. His spirit is a powerful reminder of the strength that can exist even in the darkest times.

I've also come to realize something important: not everyone who has been in my life will be there in the future. When people choose to turn away during tough times, it’s a clear sign that they don’t belong in my journey anymore. This revelation has helped me understand who I truly value and what their absence means.

It seems that those closest to me are often trapped in their own struggles, offering up excuses for not visiting or reaching out. At times, it feels incredibly selfish on their part. But then I wonder: maybe it’s me who’s being selfish, thinking they love me so deeply that they can't face being around me? It’s a complex dance of feelings—how do you love someone yet also find it hard to be present and supportive?

I've been touched by the unexpected support from people I never thought would reach out, simply saying, “I’m praying for you” or “You’re on my mind.” In those moments, I can almost feel the hand of God guiding me.

So I tell myself, “Keep going, Talesha! This is temporary!” It’s a mantra that reminds me that while humans may let me down, I can always count on God to be there for me, unwavering and supportive.

I tend to keep my thoughts to myself, avoiding discussions that might sound like complaints. Yet, this process of reflection is freeing and reminds me of the strength found in vulnerability.

#374 Seed Session Are you Going or Growing 🤷🏾‍♀️

The Bible emphasizes the importance of not just hearing the word of God, but also actively putting it into practice.

* James 1:22-25 is a key passage that highlights this concept:

* It compares hearing the word without doing it to looking at your reflection in a mirror and then forgetting what you looked like.

* True faith, according to this passage, is demonstrated by actions that align with the teachings of God.

Key takeaways:

* Hearing alone is insufficient: Simply listening to sermons, reading the Bible, or attending church services is not enough for genuine spiritual growth.

* Action is essential: Faith must be expressed through actions that reflect love, compassion, justice, and obedience to God's will.

* Living out the word: This involves applying biblical principles to daily life, making choices that honor God, and serving others.

In essence, the scripture encourages a life of active discipleship, where faith is not just a theoretical concept but a lived reality.

Domestic abuse, also called "domestic violence" or "intimate partner violence", can be defined as a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner. Abuse is physical, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. This includes any behaviors that frighten, intimidate, terrorize, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, injure, or wound someone. Domestic abuse can happen to anyone of any race, age, sexual orientation, religion, or gender. It can occur within a range of relationships including couples who are married, living together or dating. Domestic violence affects people of all socioeconomic backgrounds and education levels.

Anyone can be a victim of domestic violence, regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, faith or class

Victims of domestic abuse may also include a child or other relative, or any other household member.

Domestic abuse is typically manifested as a pattern of abusive behavior toward an intimate partner in a dating or family relationship, where the abuser exerts power and control over the victim.

Domestic abuse can be mental, physical, economic or sexual in nature. Incidents are rarely isolated, and usually escalate in frequency and severity. Domestic abuse may culminate in serious physical injury or death.

Are You Being Abused?

Look over the following questions to think about how you are being treated and how you treat your partner.

Recognizing the signs of domestic abuse

Does your partner…

Embarrass or make fun of you in front of your friends or family?

Put down your accomplishments?

Make you feel like you are unable to make decisions?

Use intimidation or threats to gain compliance?

Tell you that you are nothing without them?

Treat you roughly—grab, push, pinch, shove or hit you?

Call you several times a night or show up to make sure you are where you said you would be?

Use drugs or alcohol as an excuse for saying hurtful things or abusing you?

Blame you for how they feel or act?

Pressure you sexually for things you aren’t ready for?

Make you feel like there is “no way out” of the relationship?

Prevent you from doing things you want – like spending time with friends or family?

Try to keep you from leaving after a fight or leave you somewhere after a fight to “teach you a lesson”?

Do you...

Sometimes feel scared of how your partner may behave?

Constantly make excuses to other people for your partner’s behaviour?

Believe that you can help your partner change if only you changed something about yourself?

Try not to do anything that would cause conflict or make your partner angry?

Always do what your partner wants you to do instead of what you want?

Stay with your partner because you are afraid of what your partner would do if you broke up?

If any of these things are happening in your relationship, talk to someone. Without help, the abuse will continue. Making that first call to seek help is a courageous step.

Always remember...

NO ONE deserves to be abused. The abuse is not your fault. You are not alone.
