Calling our beauty lovers! Always knowing she wanted to start an eComm business, Jemma had toyed with many ideas whilst she built a successful Eyebrow Artistry business from her home.
In 2020 with the lockdowns shutting down the beauty industry – and with most of us incorporating home workouts (outside if you were lucky enough to be in Queensland!) which got her thinking of the impact on her skin that outdoor workouts were having.
After thoroughly researching the damage that exercise can have on our complexion through free radical damage and oxidative stress, Jemma sought to create a skincare regime that kept women living their most active lives without sacrificing their skin. Jemma created the first all-natural, vegan skincare range tailored specifically to an active lifestyle.
Whilst also being a mum, Jemma understands all too well the challenges of being an entrepreneur. We cover schooling, how to handle choosing a career that might not be in line with your parents vision for you and the ins and outs of developing a beauty line!

Joining me on the podcast today is Cassie Sanghvi, certified pharmacist and Co Founder of Australia’s leading magnesium skincare company, The Base Collective.
Cassie and friend Carly founded The Base Collective in 2016 after identifying a rising need and a gap in the market for a range of skincare that was both free from unwanted chemicals and design focused. In just five short years the duo turned the brand into a multi-million dollar business. Welcome back to Beyond the Shop Floor Podcast – our final episode for the year!
What a year it has been – I want to thank you all for your support and feedback – there is a lot of work that goes into a podcast and for me this is a passion project that is all about advocating for careers in retail – This year was really all about testing the waters learning what everyone was responding to and committing to being really consistent with content.
This year has been bittersweet on a professional and personal level – I feel like so much has been accomplished - We launched a new website this week, navigated digital transformations, I am growing the team and I completed my postgraduate to certify as a Career Coach. PHEW no wonder I am feeling tired!
Of course, it hasn’t all been roses – but whatever is? Personally, it has been a challenging year for me on so many levels like it has been for most of us, with the year ending in a totally different way and different location to what I thought. This reflection got me to thinking about with everyone talking about labour shortages and the impending Great resignation – there will be a LOT of people post 2020/2021 aka dirty Rona pondering a total game changer when it comes to career. Thinking about totally hitting up the pivot can feel conflicting super exciting – but oh so scary particularly if it could mean a financial sacrifice. So today join me as I share my personal story of career pivots and evolution – one that saw me take a $50k salary cut to do it, whether I have any regrets and the biggest lessons I learnt along the way.
Tune in for one last time in 2021 – and I will see you beautiful people back here for a bright new year around the corner! Stay safe and happy holidays!

Welcome back to Beyond the Shop Floor Podcast – Episode 21 is HERE.
You have heard all the chat about the Great Resignation – I hope otherwise where have you been?? But something more pressing that is creating a very challenging market right now is the low levels of resignations and applications that the Australian market is facing right now. Low levels of global mobility, the C word, and a few other crap political things are making this the tightest market we have seen possibly ever. The good news? This is the PERFECT market to leverage if you aren’t where you want to be.
SO A QUICK NOTE TO YOU – go check your LinkedIn DM’s cause I guarantee people are sliding in there! And if they aren’t? Then your profile needs a review girls and boys cause people can’t find you! In which case you also need to come see me! Hehe!
So the likelihood of you handling multiple job offers is increasing right now. So how do you decide which role is for you? What things do you need to consider? How long is it acceptable to make a company wait while you consider which offer you want to accept? We cover all this and more in this weeks episode of Beyond the Shop Floor!
