Prophecy/Astrology/Face and Palm Reading (Zohar- Yitro)

In this week’s Zohar, there are many fascinating sections about how to read a person’s face, eyes, lips, and hands, as well as teachings about astrology and prophecy.

At first, that seems strange since this week’s portion is a detailed description of the Mount Sinai revelation where the Jewish people receive the Torah from Hashem himself. So you would think this week would be an extended discussion about the mitzvot, which for sure there are teachings, but why mention astrology and face and palm reading in this very important parsha?

We explore these questions and more in this week's episode.

Malchut: The Divine Queen (Zohar-Beshalach)

In this week’s portion of Beshalach, there’s a tremendous amount of teachings in the Zohar that discuss Malchut, the Divine Feminine. The Zohar refers to Malchut as the Shechina, the Nukva, and the Matronita, the Divine Queen.

The concept of the Divine Feminine is one that was originally introduced in the Talmud as the Shechina, the Divine presence in the world. Then, the Zohar took this concept and developed it much further as we shall see when we explore different themes connected to Malchut in today’s learning.

Why did Hashem create the Sefirot? (Zohar - Bo)
The Sefirot are the most essential tools that Hashem created to channel His influence into the world and rule over it. In this section, the Zohar explains why would Hashem, who has no form or image, create the Sefirot and what is their unique role?

Why do we do the Mitzvot? (Zohar- Va'Era)

This discussion in the Zohar from the Ra'aya Meheimna is about "TA’AMEI MITZVOT"-

What is the reason for doing mitzvot? And how do they bridge the gap between the finite and infinite so we can "know" Hashem?

How will you dress your soul today? (Zohar-Vayechi-Day 2)

In this Zohar discussion, we will learn about the garments of our soul and how they're created through our actions.

The greatest gift Hashem gave us is that of teshuvah- to have another chance at getting things right- by reconnecting to our highest selves and to cloth our neshamas with beautiful garments created by beautiful actions of truth, kindness, wisdom, love and compassion, joy and beauty. So ask yourself: "how will you dress your soul today?"

Shechina Rests in a Place of Joy (Zohar-Vayechi-day 1)
Vayechi- means he lived- that Jacob only really lived when he was in Egypt. That after a lifetime of sorrow, he was finally able to experience joy and pleasure when reunited with Yosef and that when he was finally in a positive state, the Shechina returned to him.

Middah Keneged Middah --mirroring energies ( Zohar-Vayigash-Day 5)

Every force has its counterforce. Everything has a mirror image created in God's world. Middah keneged middah- measure for measure.

In today's lesson, we see a continuation of the theme of the right and the left - chesed and gevurah. Hashem created both and gave us free will to choose which side we want to draw from.

Are you on the "right" or on the "left"? (Zohar-Vayigash-Day 4)

In this discussion, we will explore why Moses and Elijah both said to the Creator, "Why have you brought evil?"

The Zohar is teaching that it’s up to us - our actions. If we’re on the side of the “right” - then union will happen, Hashem will protect us and blessings will flow. If we’re on the side of the “left”, we are exposed to the judgement of the evil side and aren’t protected.

We see here the connection to yesterday’s lesson that when there’s a union that is triggered through positive, holy actions, then the union is done in secrecy, and that hiddenness allows for blessings to come forth. That there’s blessing in things that are hidden more than in things that are revealed.

Yosef: Tzadik Yesod Olam (Zohar-Vayigash-Day 3)

Yosef was a mirror for the supernal Yesod, which is the sefirah that receives blessings from the upper world and channels them down to malchut, which is the physical world. A tzaddik is one who isn’t concerned with his own needs but is a channel to provide for the needs of others and whatever he receives he uses for the sake of giving to others.

How can we transform our need to receive for the sake alone to receiving for the sake of sharing and being channels for blessings in this world just like a tzaddik?
