A sua história começa em Madrid, num lar onde “ser judeu” foi ensinado como sinónimo de “ser israelita”. O encontro com a Palestina, em 2019, desfez o dogma: no lugar onde lhe diziam que seria odiado, recebeu hospitalidade, perguntas, abraços. A assimetria entre o que viveu e o que lhe tinham contado abriu uma rutura política e uma nova forma de habitar a sua identidade judaica.
Nesta conversa, falamos sobre o sionismo e as suas fissuras internas, sobre a hospitalidade como resistência, sobre as mobilizações de judeus na diáspora contra o genocídio e sobre como separar judaísmo de Estado de Israel é um ato de liberdade, tanto para palestinianos e como para judeus.

In the second episode of YALLA, we talk with Jonathan Benebgui, an anti-Zionist Jew and one of the founding voices of the collective Jews for Peace and Justice in Portugal and understand how Israel became an anti-semetic project.
His story begins in Madrid, in a home where “being Jewish” was taught as synonymous with “being Israeli.” His encounter with Palestine in 2019 shattered that dogma: in the place where he had been told he would be hated, he was met with hospitality, questions, and open arms. The asymmetry between what he experienced and what he had been told created a political rupture and a new way of inhabiting his Jewish identity.
In this conversation, we talk about Zionism and its internal fractures, hospitality as resistance, the mobilization of Jews in the diaspora against the genocide, and how separating Judaism from the State of Israel is an act of freedom, for both Palestinians and Jews.
