Head over Heels makes both Elle and Maddie’s top dramas of the year and for good reason. It’s such the perfect mix of fantasy, romance (alllll the tvn stills!!!!), and comedy. It’s just straight up a great kdrama. It had us feeling everything, swooning, laughing, and googling pictures of Choo Young-woo (bless up).

Maddie & Christina are here to review Our Unwritten Seoul! Maddie FINALLY decided to watch this amazing drama, and Christina couldn’t be more thrilled. This drama is definitely “Christina-coded” and could be her drama of the year. WHAT?!

Our Unwritten Seoul is about two twins, Mi-Ji & Mi-Jae (Park Bo-young – Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Daily Dose of Sunshine), who are complete opposites. Mi-Jae works a finance job in Seoul, while Mi-Ji continues to live in their farming hometown, helping her family and doing a myriad of jobs. Both women are in a rut and need time apart from their current situations, so they end up switching places temporarily.

In this review, the ladies talk about how beautiful the writing is, how amazing the women characters are, and how the two male leads (Jinyoung – GOT7, Yumi’s Cells & Ryu Kyung-soo – Itaewon Class) are some of the BIGGEST GREEN FLAGS in the history of green flags. This drama pulls at your heartstrings and teaches you that everyone needs help through life — and that it’s never too late to start again.

MIDWAY REVIEW: She Was Pretty

Elle and Christina are back again for a midway review of She Was Pretty! So much has happened in the past six episodes!!

Hye-Jin and Seong-Joon are really getting to know each other during these episodes, and the girls are SWOONING HARD. They loved the trip trope scenes (is it one of Christina’s favorite trip tropes now?!?!) and absolutely love seeing Seong-Joon fall hard for Hye-Jin—without even realizing it.

Hye-Jin’s bestie, Ha-Ri, is really getting on the girls’ nerves because she keeps lying to her. And… the second male lead? Elle and Christina still find him annoying (only time will tell)!

Through Two: She Was Pretty

It’s time for the next Throwback Drama! Elle and Christina are doing She Was Pretty with Hwang Jung-Eum and Park Seo Joon as the leads!

She Was Pretty is a romantic comedy K-drama that tells the story of childhood sweethearts who reunite as adults – but with a twist. As kids, Kim Hye-Jin (Hwang Jung-Eum) was a confident, sweet girl, and Ji Sung-Joon (Park Seo Joon) was a shy boy who lacked confidence. As adults, Hye-Jin is insecure about her looks, and Sung-Joon has grown into a successful editor. Hye-Jin ends up working under Sung-Joon as her boss, and he doesn’t recognize her.

In this Through Two, Elle and Christina go over the first two episodes. They discuss the leads and what they predict will happen as the show goes on. One thing’s for sure: they aren’t super thrilled with Park Seo Joon’s character and how he treats the female lead (as of right now).

Kpop Demon Hunters is a children’s film that premiered on Netflix and is currently blowing up. The characters are great, the storyline is strong, THE SOUNDTRACK BANGS, and the way it highlights Korean culture — both historically and through a K-pop lens — has been incredible to see.

The film centers around a famed K-pop girl group called Hundrix. Rumi, Mira, and Zoey lead a double life as demon hunters, protecting and maintaining a magical barrier named the Honmoon. Drama ensues when a new boy group enters the K-pop world — a group secretly formed by demons.

Throughout the movie, the girls learn more about themselves and come to accept who they truly are. This children’s movie is action-packed, blending idol culture, music, humor, and heart — all wrapped up into one.

Kpop Demon Hunters is available now on Netflix. Add the soundtrack to your playlist ASAP!

Through Two: The Crowned Clown

Maddie & Christina are back for another throwback drama! They have never seen this Joseon-era drama before and are very intrigued by the premise — and WANT TO SEE MORE OF YEO JIN-GOO.

The Crowned Clown tells the story of a struggling king named Lee Hun and a clown performer named Ha Sun who look IDENTICAL. Ha Sun is brought to the palace to stand in for the king and must adapt quickly to royal life. Along the way, Ha Sun ends up falling for the queen.

The king and Ha Sun are played by the wonderful Yeo Jin-Goo (Hotel Del Luna), and the queen is played by the incredible Lee Se-Young (The Red Sleeve, The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract).

The Crowned Clown premiered in 2019 and is a 16-episode drama available on Viki.

Hotel Del Luna stars the fabulous IU (My Mister, Moon Lovers, When Life Gives You Tangerines) as Jang Man-Wol and the cutie pie Yeo Jin-Goo (The Crowned Clown, Link: Eat, Love, Kill) as Koo Chan-Sung. This story is about a mysterious hotel that caters only to ghosts. Man-Wol has been the hotel’s owner for years, cursed to stay there, while Koo Chan-Sung becomes the new manager. He helps the hotel’s ghostly clientele resolve their unfinished business before passing on to the afterlife.

This drama came out in 2019, and it still holds up today. It’s on Maddie’s top ten list, so that’s saying something! It has everything—fantasy, emotion, romance, cute banter, and humor. So let Hotel Del Luna be the next drama you watch!
