The clamour for increased representation of women in elective and appointive positions of power is at an all time high and the reasons are the same – Inclusion & Representation MATTERS!
Do you know in 2 decades of continuous democratic governance in Nigeria, only 6 women have emerged as Deputy Governors? Do you also know that in 2020, Nigeria is still yet to produce a Female Governor? It is saddening but this is our reality.
The good thing is, we do not have to sit still and bemoan our fate, we can change this reality by getting off the sidelines and taking informed actions to ensure positive outcomes in 2023 and beyond.
Let us do it together!
The coronavirus pandemic has significantly altered the way we work and live.
The attendant consequence is, we have to unlearn, learn and adapt to this new reality or risk being stuck in a rut.
Unlearning can be an onerous task, learning new ways of staying productive can be difficult and adapting to the emerging climate requires intentionality.
At the September edition of the WIMBIZ e-Roundtable themed ''Don’t Get Stuck in the Rut: Stay Relevant, Resilient and Visible'', we extensively discuss these whilst equipping women with a personal action-plan on how to prepare for opportunities in the emerging reality.
Our Speakers:
Moderator
Debola Deji-Kurunmi - Founder, Ideation Hub Africa
Our speakers will share extensively some of the unspoken challenges associated with being a woman in the workplace and provide informed perspectives on topical questions such as:
How do women advance their careers without the threat of gender discrimination? What are the pragmatic ways to address gender discrimination when confronted with it? How do women create support for each other given this reality of gender inequality? How do we achieve equity for women?
Our Speakers:
PROF. OLUWAFUNMILAYO J. PARA-MALLAM, MNI - Professor of Gender & Development & Senior Fellow, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies
MRS. JACKLINE KAMANZI - Executive Secretary, Rwandan Women Council
DR. OTIVE IGBUZOR - Founding Executive Director, African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD)
The theme of the event “Take a Stand: It is TIME” stems from the rise in cases of Sexual and Gender Based Domestic Violence which has increased due to the COVID-19 global pandemic and ensuing lockdown across the world and specifically in Nigeria. We believe our event is taking place at a time when there is an unprecedented increase in reported cases of rape, sexual assault and domestic violence in Nigeria in recent months, some of which have unfortunately resulted in brutal and unsolved murders which lends to the notion that these conversations need to be brought to the fore.
