Black Mirror Season 6 Review & Ranking
Has life become so dark that there's nothing Black Mirror can do to scare us anymore? Has the show become too "American-ised" for Brits to relate to it? What will the future of Black Mirror look like? These are just some of the questions we try to answer in our review and ranking of Black Mirror Season 6. - - - - - - - - Follow our socials! "Feel Good" films to watch this Pride Month

Need something to watch this Pride Month or just a Friday night movie? We’ve got you covered. The best part? None of them will make you cry! Well…a couple might, but not in the way LGBTQ+ films usually do. This Pride Month, we wanted to draw attention to “feel good” queer movies that encapsulate the love, acceptance and safety we all deserve Films mentioned in this episode: The Handmaiden (2016) But I’m A Cheerleader (1999) Shiva Baby (2021) All About My Mother (1999) FanFik (2023) Pride (2014) And stick around for a few honourable mentions! - - - - - - - - Follow our socials! Mental Health and Horror

For our first episode in two months (), we’ve come back with a bit of a heavy one…mental health representation in horror. Starting with Scream 6 (2023) and working our way back to Psycho (1960), we talk about the negative effects certain representations of mental health in horror films have had. We’re not mental health experts but two avid horror fans who believe this is an important conversation. While movies of the past can’t be (and shouldn’t always be) erased, what responsibility does the film industry need to shoulder when it comes to the representation of mental health in horror? Content warning: discussion of mental health and some specific mental health conditions (relative to their portrayal in certain films) Films/TV shows mentioned in this episode: Scream VI (2023) Split (2016) American Horror Story: Asylum (2011) Black Swan (2010) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) Psycho (1960)

The Four Pillars of Fandom

Did we ever tell you about the time we went to a My Chemical Concert and danisnotonfire was there? Yeah, we know that sounds like the plot of fanfiction but that is only one part of what we get into in this episode. Honestly, it would be impossible to cover everything that falls under ‘fandom.’ Instead, we’ve done our best to separate our personal experience and knowledge of fandom into four (mostly) easy-to-consume pillars. Get ready for the most organised rant you’ve ever heard… - - - - - - - - Follow our socials! Forbidden Love

What films come to mind when you think of ‘Forbidden Love?’ Romeo & Juliet. Titanic. Call Me By Your Name. Lolita. These are the obvious answers but for this episode, we explore how Forbidden Love is about getting freaky…literally.  The three films that encapsulate Forbidden Love to us are The Shape of Water, Bones and All and Titane. From romance to human connection to trauma - we talk about the beautiful and ugly sides of love (as well as how the two are not mutually exclusive).

CONTENT WARNING: Discussions of generational trauma and sexual assault

SKINAMARINK is an absolute NIGHTMARE

Can you believe it’s only February and we’ve already been fed some of the most delicious horror films?  Anyone who’s been listening to us for a while knows that we are absolute horror fanatics. Usually, we wait until Halloween to start denying we’re a horror podcast while uploading horror episode after horror episode…but our horror overlords have decreed that 2023 is the year we can deny it no longer…  SKINAMARINK has left us excited for and questioning what could be next for the horror genre. Whether you loved the film or hated it, there is no doubt that it has taken its place in horror history.  We spent this episode unpacking exactly why SKINAMARINK is social media’s new sleep paralysis demon.

Animes and K-Dramas we BURN FOR
What do period dramas, k-dramas and animes have in common? They all have that sweet, sweet subtext that makes us go wild. In this year’s Valentine’s Day minisode, we challenge that physical affection is not the most intimate two (or more) human beings can be. A glance across the room, the brief brush of a hand or even sharing a piece of toast are all hotter than what you might get up to in the bedroom. Disagree? Hear us out…

Community 101 (the good, the bad and the misogyny)

We’re living in the best timeline because #sixseasonsandamovie is FINALLY coming true. It’s got us feeling all nostalgic but just like most things from 2000s and 2010s, we’ve been hit with childhood-shattering questions…

How has Community aged, is it everything we remember, what place could the movie possibly have in 2023?  Two die-hard fans get a heavy dose of reality as they try to answer these questions by talking about a show that went a long way into shaping the people they are today.  Join us as we talk about the good, the bad and the misogyny of Community.

What is the White Noise Podcast?

We're still here. We're still queer. And we're ready for a new year.  Some things never change but this podcast has grown and bloomed into something we couldn't be more proud of 🤧 To celebrate that and welcome our new listeners into the world of White Noise, we decided our first release of 2023 should be about a topic we don't talk about that often...us!

Horror Sequels (7 Days of Horror)

Happy Halloween! The best day of the year is finally here and so is the final of our seven-day Halloween specials. While this might not have been how we planned to end things, we had a wickedly good time talking about horror sequels.

We’re kind of sad that our seven days of horror are over but we hope you’ve enjoyed them as much as we have. We’ll be back next year with even more horror so make sure to subscribe, like and leave a comment.

(P.S. obviously, we’ll still be back next month with your regularly scheduled podcast eps. See you soon!)

Queer Horror (7 Days of Horror)

It wouldn’t be a White Noise Halloween special if we didn’t get a little queer at least once. This year, we are dedicating Day Six of our Halloween specials to talk about the horror films that had us hiding in the closet for more than one reason.

Born into Blood (7 Days of Horror)

Many artists suffer for their art whereas others inflict this suffering on others for the sake of their art. In Day Two of the White Noise 7 Days of Horror specials, we’re dedicating an episode to directors you might not have known got their start in horror. If you’re a Lord of the Rings fan then you owe it all to Bad Taste.

Ep. 24 The Rise of Booktok

This month we're talking about something a little different on White Noise...books!  Considering how we are both big literature nerds, it's mad how it took us nearly two years to finally record a novel-centric episode. And, believe it or not, we have TikTok to thank for it. In fact, you might be surprised to learn just how many of your recent favourites are all down to the rise of BookTok.

Join us as we talk about our recent favs, literature pet peeves and female rage!
