What The Film
Kevin & Vishaal Get 'CAUGHT STEALING'

In this episode of ‘What The Film’, Kevin and Vishaal kick off their discussion by sharing their experience at this year’s US Open before diving into the newest pop culture phenomenon K-Pop Demon Hunters (spoiler: Vishaal is not amused!). They discuss why and how this film has managed to penetrate the public consciousness and what this may portend for the types of movies and moviegoing experience to come.

The conversation then transitions into a review of Darren Aronofsky's new film ‘Caught Stealing’ The duo delve into the film’s themes of grief while drawing parallels to classic films. They also touch on the various character dynamics including Austin Butler’s role as leading man. Is he effective in carrying the film? Does the movie successfully unearth those ideas of grief and regret in a way that feels fresh? Does Arronofsky transport the audience into the intense underworld of 90s punk rock NYC? Watch/listen to this at your peril, folks!

What The Film
'Weapons' & The Universal Case for Hot Dogs

In this episode of 'What the Film', hosts Vishaal and Kevin kicks things off with one of the most exciting developments for one of their most anticipated films - Scary Movie 6! Can the additions of Cindy and Brenda revive the franchise that birthed some of the most laugh-out-loud moments in the early 00s? Then they break down one of the most anticipated and commercially successful horror films of the year ‘Weapons.’ They discuss how Zach Cregger’s follow-up to the sleeper hit ‘Barbarian’ builds upon existing ideas and also manages to be an original concept with a lot of big ideas. Does Zach Creepers land the plane with some of the big ideas he presents to us as an audience? What could possibly be the reason why 17 kids all go missing one night all at the same time? Does Zach Creggers have a fear of old people? And finally will one of the film's central characters penetrate the cultural zeitgeist this Halloween? The conversation wraps up with what they think the big industry takeaways for the film should be.

What The Film
Superman Knows What You Did This Summer

In this episode of 'What the Film', hosts Vishaal and Kevin discuss their recent travels, rumblings of films currently in production, and delve into their first double feature with ‘Superman’ and ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’! They discuss how these films, while different in genre/tone, actually have a lot in common through their mutual interest in using nostalgia to connect with audiences. For ‘Superman’ they share their own personal relationship to the indelible superhero and what the film may or may not be communicating about our current political climate. As for ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ they discuss the film in the context of the larger trend that has brought many other legacy horror franchises back to theaters. How does this film stack up against others in the genre? Has this trend become stale or does it still feel fresh to audiences?

The conversation wraps up with reflections (& threats by Vishaal) on Gen Z audience behavior in theaters -- oh boy.

Additionally, Kevin and Vishaal try to unpack why The Weeknd keeps trying to make his acting career a thing, and is it pronounced Jenna Ortega or Jenna Ortega?

The two also talk about whether each of the characters landed for them and what Song might be trying to communicate about contemporary dating culture. Kevin offers his explanation as to whether he would ever get….the procedure (spoiler alert!) and Vishaal contemplates whether this move would have worked better as a….stage play

The two process the new 'Kiss of the Spider Woman' musicalfeaturing Jennifer Lopez. Could this be her first Oscar nomination?

Finally, Kevin's audio is finally working. Everyone, we are so back!

What The Film
"SINNERS" Have More Fun

This week on What the Film, Kevin and Vishaal  dive into Ryan Coogler's new film, 'Sinners' as they discuss how the themes of vampirism, temptation, Black music tradition, and assimilation come together to form this rich tapestry of a movie. Kevin explains why he would never choose to be a vampire and Vishaal is intrigued (read: aroused?) by Hallie Steinfeld's performance (Pride connects us all, we guess!)

The two will also process whether the new 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' reboot looks so bad that it's good.

Also, do we need to see Viola Davis in a Judd Apatow-produced R-rated raunchy comedy? Yes. The answer is always yes.

What The Film
COMPANION: Sex (Robots), Evil Men, and Beyonce (Again)

This week on What the Film we dive into Companion, the movie that dares to ask: “What if sex robots had feelings... and also a body count?” Vishaal mixes up actors in a way that's frankly criminal (he apologizes in advance). It's like he’s never seen a movie before (spoiler: he has).

Oh, and Kevin finds a way to loop Beyoncé into the conversation for the second time, and we seriously question if Jack Quaid might be too good at being bad.

Also, are men okay? (No. The answer is still no.)

What The Film
ALL WE IMAGINE IS GOOD WIFI!

Welcome to the very first episode of What The Film! We’re Kevin Satterfield (filmmaker/producer) and Vishaal Reddy (actor/writer), and this is our attempt at pretending to be film critics. Spoiler: we’re not.

But we do have a lot of thoughts, some working microphones, and apparently, a deep-seated grudge against the Beatles (don’t ask).In this chaotic debut, we navigate everything from tech nightmares to strange bus encounters to feeling ancient in a world that keeps getting younger.

Somewhere in the middle of all that, we actually talk about two incredible films—Mike Leigh’s Hard Truths and Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light—and yes, we do have real things to say about them. Kind of.

It’s messy, it’s loud, and it’s very us. Welcome to the ride. We promise it only gets weirder from here.
