WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BETTE & JOAN: EP 1 – HUMORESQUE & THE LETTER
“Don’t You Like Martinis?”
In the debut episode of What Ever Happened to Bette & Joan, we go back a couple of decades before the making of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? to look at classic Bette & Joan with 1946’s Humoresque and 1940’s The Letter. It was the golden age of Hollywood and the two actresses reigned over their respective studios, eventually helping to define the decade through their on-screen representations of women with films such as these. Podcaster Michael McClain joins me to look at how Humoresque and The Letter each perfectly shows why the pair were considered to be two of the top movie stars of their generation.

YOUR HOST

Frank Calvillo (Highly Suspect Reviews, Screener Squad)
Born and raised in South Texas, Frank currently lives in Austin and has been in love with movies ever since his father showed him some Three Stooges shorts when he was five years old. Today he loves all kinds of film, regardless of era, country, budget or genre. He believes every film has an audience and is at least one person’s favorite movie. After writing for Sight & Sound and Slackerwood, he now writes for Cinapse where his increasingly random taste in all flavors of cinema (from Rashomon to Mars Attacks!) continues to thrive. His ultimate goal is to write a script for his boyhood crush, Michelle Pfeiffer.
