On this episode, we jump in head first (no pun intended) into grande dame guignol cinema and Bette & Joan’s part in helping to establish it. After What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? proved that horror and older actresses were a winning mix, Davis & Crawford wasted no time signing on to a pair of similarly-themed films in 1964 that looked to capitalize on their newfound success. Fellow Cinapse contributor Dan Tabor joins me as we revisit Strait-Jacket starring Joan Crawford and Dead Ringer starring Bette Davis, two titles that offered up twists on the Baby Jane blueprint and helped create a new sub-genre of film.
