God uses each generation to accomplish His purposes. But with each new generation comes a new set of problems. In Genesis we see Isaac’s family starting out as a devoted, spiritual, and happy family. Isaac, Jacob, and Esau represent three different ways of life. Isaac was an ordinary man with strong faith, Jacob wrestled with God, and Esau rejected spiritual things to follow the world. Culture tells us to have a “me first” mentality, but Jesus taught us to love and put others first. We are to deny ourselves and focus on others because love always says, “you first.”
Warren Wiersbe encourages us to be strengthened in who we are in Christ and to remember that if Jesus had put Himself first, He would have never left heaven to die for us.

We often view heaven as the place we are going to go after we have the best time possible on Earth—even believers often think this. But Jesus had a different view of life on Earth for His followers. He wants the fact that we are going to heaven to be a motivating factor in how we live our lives. He wants us to be unselfish, worry-free, and united in fellowship to show the world the love of God.
