We start with a mysterious mystery of the Herrimaults (Eh-ree-Mau) which Cral gets straight away and Dar loses his temper. We explore what it takes to become a Hairy-Mole and what their day to day life is like, their relations with other peasants and their local nobility their Leaders are desperate to hold to account. We turn to the tale of perhaps the most famous of their number, Bertrand the Brigand of Bergerac, and how he is not a total rip off of Robin Hood. We close out the episode by looking at the other extreme of the peasant/noble interaction. The Fanatics that are the raucous murderous Grail Pilgrims, Serf’s who worship Grail Knights to the point that they may kill them and wear their trappings and bones to bring the favour of the Lady.

We start this episode, eventually, with the return of the Skaven and the devastation the Red Pox has on the peasants and nobles alike. We turn our attention to the Affair of the False Grail and what exactly can go wrong when you claim to be a king, The Siege of Couronne sees the first strong alliance between the Bretonnians and the Elves of Ulthuan. The Dark elves take umbrage at this, attacking first at the command of the Witch King and a second time, The Crusade of Blood, when the witch Elves cut through Bretonnia and their way south. We close out the episode with a look at The Year of Woe where The forces of Tzeentch try their best to claim the treasures of Gille and the Grail Companions from the very founding of the country.

Following on from the unification of Bretonnia by Gilles and his road men, we look at their eventual aging and death as they become legends. Gilles’ son Louis the Rash codifies the Code of Chivalry and we look at the creation of modern-day Bretonnia because of it… mostly turf wars, questing and problems with orcs. We join the Bretonnians on their crusade to free the old world from the forces of Sultan Jaffar (yes, we know) and follow them into Araby proper. We explore the key battles of the crusade and look at the sultan's increasingly chaos allied forces. The Bretonnians eventually return home leaving the ongoing crusade to the forces of the Old World and we close out with the Night of the Restless Dead, which is nice.

The time has arrived to look at the most famous Bretonnian of all time, Gilles Le Breton. From his “humble” beginnings as a dragon slayer he quickly forms a crusading army to free the lands of bretonnia from the Greenskins (though the Norscans, Beastmen and Undead make an appearance).. With their first victory banked we follow his ultimate road trip around the dukedoms, freeing each in turn and expanding the Grall Companions each blessed by the Lady of the Lake. We look at the various deeds of each companion and the lengths Bretonnian history goes to to ensure that the companions' armies are never really mentioned. We discuss the Lady’s comprehensive powers of disguise and the true horror unleashed by Fredemund the Falconer.

We cast our eyes back to the prehistory of Bretonnia and look at the exodus from the Southlands that led to the land's population and the challenges they faced there… mostly in shades of green. We take a sharp turn and talk about the Reman Empire for the first time and its influence and reason for creation. We then take a further step into the past to the fabled city of Tylos, detailing its rise as an agricultural centre, its friendly trade relations with a wandering Dwarf clan, and its fall through cultural arrogance or perhaps a malign influence from another reality. Ultimately Dhar blows the socks off the lads with a long kept revelation.

We continue our cultural introduction to Bretonnia with a view of their relations with other human nations and the Wood Elves of Athel Loren. We then turn to the seas to look at their naval power, ports and their claim to be the greatest sailors in the Old World. Feudal Hierarchy of Bretonnia from the noble ranks of knights to the role (and miserable lot) of Bretonnian serfs. We close out the episode with a dive into the sumptuary laws that the Nobles use to control the serfs and the roles and traditions that protect/oppress the noble women of the land. On balance, not a great place to live…

In this, our first episode of a mystery faction, we start off with their mysterious place in the game, their mysterious beginnings in 3rd editions and their limited but very mysterious number of army books through the editions. We look at their original and slightly mysterious framing as a ||REDACTED|| faction and their evolution into a High Fantasy version of the same ||REDACTED|| faction. We dive into their mysterious bifurcated society and the roles each section play before closing out with a brief but extraordinarily mysterious tour around their homeland and the more populous religions found there. Oh sweet mystery!

We start with the core troops available to all chaos tribes and then expand out to include the more specialised and godbound troop types such as the comical Wrathmongers and the swift Hellstriders. We touch on older versions of the army and the allies and mercenaries they could take, including Dark Elves (Slaanesh), Undead (Nurgle), and Chaos Dwarfs (Khorne)... Tzeentch gets nothing … as planned.

In this episode we look at the champions of Chaos Undivided and what it takes to become such a champion. We start with a brief look at Vardek Crom and Kordel Shorgaar, the chief lieutenant and standard bearer of Archaon respectively. We touch upon the Inevitable City, a key strongpoint for Archaon before having a gander at the “Executioner of Chaos”, Wulfrik the Wanderer. We finally explore Archaon the Everchosen and the six great treasures he had to claim before being crowned by a petulant Be’Lakor.
This episode we turn our attention to the concept of chaos undivided and the role it plays in the tale of chaos as a whole. We discuss the philosophy of “The Great Beast” and how that is expressed through the tribes and armies as a whole in an almost modular fashion. We then take a look at what happens when an entire culture is abandoned by the chaos gods after millennia of favour… the Fimir have returned! Show notes
This episode we focus our attention on the dread Changer of Ways, Tzeentch and his love of corruption and subversion of the status quo. We touch on the corruption of magic users and the extensive use the forces of Tzeentch have of chaos cults and their bestial cousins, the Tzangor, before diving into the Armies of Tzeentch and units such as the Silver Knights of Tzeentch and the fearsome Mutalith Vortex Beast. We turn our attention to the champions of Tzeentch, namely the tragic rise of Melekh and the plant blooming journey of Aekold Helbrass. We close out the episode with the schemes of Egrimm van Horstmann, his various alliances with the dark powers and the event that triggered his fall into the clutches of Tzeentch ... as planned.
Continuing our dive into the chaos gods and their champions, it is the turn of the martial blood god Khorne. We start with an existential conversation on what drives mortals to become his champions and their violent relationship with other champions, using the former Knight of the Blazing Suns, Slaurith, as a prime example. We turn our attention to the murderous cultists of Khorne and the blood gods strained and confusing stance on magic. We dive into the continuing adventures of Aarball the Undefeated and his enormous flesh hound mount (Gabby). We explore the tale of Valkia the Bloody, the "Shield-Maiden of Khorne", a fearsome champion and consort of Khorne. We close the episode with a “when Khorne goes bad” tale of Scyla Anfingrimm, glorious chaos champion turned chaos spawn after one to many reward-naps.
Are you sick? Are you struggling with disease? Ask your apothecary if Nurgle is right for you. This episode we ooze into the worship and followers of Grandfather Nurgle. We look at the twin cultures of joyful hopelessness and bone shattering despair that characterise his many followers be they mortal cultists or the brutal Pestigor beastmen that … plague? … the Empire. Cral is delighted to hear the further adventures of Festus Leechlord and both he and Ben are mightily impressed by the Glorious brother that comprise the Glottkin, we close out the episode with the depressing tale of Valnir the reaper and reveal that it’s not all laughs and puss in the garden of Nurgle, there are mopy edgelords too.
What does it take to become a Warrior of the Dark Prince? We look at the type of culture that exists within the Hordes of Slaanesh and their Slaangor Beastmen allies. Two magic items are used to illustrate the corruption of Slaanesh that may lead many to the path of Excess. We then veer north and describe a number of Slaaneshi Chaos Champions. We start with two denied High Elves; Gilberion and Dechala. We look at the life of Styrkaar , the would-be final sexy champion of the Storm of Chaos before discussing the hypnotic overlord of Slaaneshi Mortals, Sigvald the Magnificent. We detail his rise to power, his Gilded Palace and his eventual deal with the god Slaanesh themselves. We close with an uncomfortable interlude where Ben and Cral man-crush hard on an image of Sigvald…
In this episode we look at the campaign that never was, the Storm of Chaos ... aos ... aos... We start with the overly eager Chaos Zar Surtha Lenk as he invades the Empire and lays siege to the Wolfenburg. We detail the internal and External schism of the empire that is somewhat resolved by the Conclave of Light. We discuss the political genius of the Emperor Karl Franz in dealing with Sigmar Reborn and the titanic battles all factions on the Fated Place must endure. When then go through a the campaign at nose-bleed speed with a lot of "meanwhiles" and "suddenlies". We end the episode in the same weird anti-climactic tone of the campaign itself and decide that it is better that it was all retconned... THIS NEVER HAPPENED
We ramp up the general chaos of our coverage by engaging in snapshots of the rise and lives of the numerous chaos champions. From Deiderick Kastner to Festus the Leechlord we look at their events and campaigns as we march inexorably to the end times. We take a gander at Sigvald the Magnificents soft armoured invasion of Ulthuan and Egrimm van Horstmann’s duplicitous life of magic, as well as his stealthy exit from Altdorf. We launch into the History of the Warriors of Chaos by heading BACK to the future, no to the collapse of the polar gates. We discuss Belakor’s rise and fall and the Dwarfs that would become Chorfs AKA Chaos Dwarfs, all while trying to work out who the nameless chaos champions of early history were. We touch on some of the more notable battles as well as the defences that different races use against them. We close out the episode with a look at two of the more famous Champions of Chaos, Azazel (née Gerreon) and Morkar, the retconned first Everchosen of Chaos or Pillager of Ulthuan… Dhar’s still not sure.
Continuing our look at the great tribes of the north we look at the role played by Chaos Champions. Leaders, sorcerers and prophetic warriors of the gods, Chaos Champions represent the most “colourful” aspects of the followers of chaos in Warhammer the Old World. We discuss how one begins on the eightfold pathway to Daemonhood and what challenges such beings face as they begin their inevitable pilgrimage North. We look at four such champions and their warbands from the heyday of the Realms of Chaos books and detail their followers and rewards.
