This week on UrTypical Podcast, Donnie sits down with artist and creator masi to unpack the world of music — from toy keyboards to powerful remixes and everything in between.
More than just swapping stories, they break down what it really means to create: making art for yourself, finding your people, and letting songs speak from the heart. With plenty of laughs, honesty, and a touch of behind-the-scenes magic, it’s a conversation that reminds us why music connects us all.
Whether you’re chasing your own creative spark or just love a good beat, this episode is your all-access pass to the joy of making music.

Grief is strange. It’s heavy, unpredictable, and sometimes—against all odds—it’s funny. In this episode, Donnie sits down with Yadira, the younger sister of his late friend Andres, to share how loss shaped their lives and how laughter became a lifeline.
From the awkward moments of giggling through tears to the comfort of inside jokes, they explore how humor doesn’t erase grief but helps carry it.
Together, they reflect on the waves of anger, guilt, and sorrow, but also the unexpected joy that comes from cherishing small moments and keeping memories alive. It’s a reminder that grief isn’t something to “get over” but something to live with—sometimes through tears, sometimes through laughter.
As Andres’ birthday approaches on August 24th, this conversation becomes more than reflection—it’s a celebration of him. A tribute to the love he left behind, the laughter he inspired, and the reminder that even in loss, joy can still be found.

🎭 Be Loud, Take Space — and who better to embody that than my biggest guest yet, Sis Thee Doll! A Black trans femme creative from Houston, Texas, Sis’s artistry radiates resilience, joy, and community. She’s an actress, activist, and fierce advocate for Black trans femmes in the arts — and made history as the first Black trans woman to lead a Broadway national tour, stealing the show as Ado Annie in Oklahoma!.
From gracing the stage in Oklahoma! to appearing in American Horror Story and Pose, Sis knows the power of telling your story on your terms. As founder of the Open House Project, Doll Productions, and the dazzling holiday tradition Sismas, she’s building stages — literal and figurative — for voices that deserve to be heard.
In this conversation, we get real about navigating identity in the performing arts, the magic (and madness) of stage vs. screen, and why confidence is your greatest audition weapon. Sis shares her wins, her challenges, and the unapologetic truth about owning your talent in an industry that doesn’t always make room.

Ever been scared of a windmill and a dating app? Same. In this hilariously honest episode, I’m joined by my self-appointed family — my college wife Katie and our daughter Navada — as we dive headfirst into the wild world of modern dating.
From irrational fears to messy love lives, we cover it all: ghosting, jealousy, weird speed dates, awkward “what are we?” talks, and why clear communication and boundaries are harder than they sound. Whether you're deep in the dating trenches or just trying to figure out where your friendships stand, this one's got something for you.
Think of it as therapy... but funnier.

📍 A college love story... minus the romance. Plus, a lot of heart.
This week on UrTypical Podcast, Donnie is joined by his college “wife” and longtime friend, Katie Lindgren — and no, they’re not actually married, but their bond is realer than most. From their humble beginnings doing theater together at Cardinal Stritch University to late-night Red Lobster runs and life-changing pep talks, this episode is a celebration of chosen family, theater kids turned grown-ups, and the unshakable friendships that withstand time, distance, and major life changes.
Katie opens up about her journey from stage manager extraordinaire to running inclusive recreational programs for adults with disabilities — and how theater gave her the confidence, clarity, and skillset to lead with empathy. She also shares candid reflections on her sobriety, how it’s shaped her life, and what it really means to show up for yourself and others.
💬 Topics we dive into:
The theater program that made them (and then fell apart without them)
How Katie helped Donnie find his voice — literally
The importance of accessible arts programs like Pink Umbrella Theater
What being sober taught her about adult friendships, inclusion, and self-worth
Why friendships that allow space and growth are the ones that last
Whether you were a theater kid, are exploring sobriety, or just want to laugh, reflect, and feel seen, this one’s a hug in podcast form.
🎧 Listen in and prepare to text your bestie after.

This week, we are joined by the brilliant and big-hearted Ben Weiss — an actor, singer, vocal coach, content creator, and proud autistic artist who thrives in spaces that celebrate diversity, authenticity, and nuance.
Together, they dive into what it means to be neurodivergent in the theater world, from navigating overstimulation and audition rooms to the power of playing fully dimensional characters. They unpack the challenges, celebrate the wins, and keep it real about what inclusion should look like — on and off stage.

Well, yes! We had to talk about it. In this episode, Donnie is joined by his friend Maguire to break down the chaos and charisma of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 10: Tournament of All Stars — Bracket 1 and Bracket 2.
Is Mistress shady or just strategic? Was Kerri robbed? Did Nicole Paige Brooks actually kind of eat??
VILLAINS ARE BACK ON OUR TV SCREENS and we are HERE for it. After all, t's just DRAG?
Listen to our hot takes, bracket breakdowns, and behind-the-scenes tea. Oh — and that star drama? You know we’re talking about it.

On this episode of UrTypical Podcast, we team up with theater artist Adam Qutaishat for an honest, passionate conversation about the state of diversity in the performing arts.
From the Milwaukee & Chicago theater scenes, the theater auditions, we unpack the systemic gatekeeping that still limits access and opportunity for actors of color.
Whether it’s decoding the myth of "paying dues," navigating tokenism, or responding to recent controversial takes (cough Patti LuPone cough), this episode dives deep into why representation matters — on stage, behind the table, and in the audience.
Tap in. Let’s talk truth. Let’s make space. Let’s change the damn stage.

🎙️ EMMY WINNER IN THE BUILDING!
On this week’s episode, I sit down with the incredible Abby Thompson — an Emmy™ Award-winning voiceover artist, performing artist, and teaching artist whose work lives at the powerful intersection of art and activism.
From immersive theater to social justice storytelling, Abby is all about creating art that empowers and engages. We talk about the importance of artivism — using your creative voice to uplift communities, challenge systems, and spark meaningful change.
Abby also gives us a behind-the-scenes look at her latest project, "Alex in WindyLand" — a new play in development inspired by real-life experiences with youth in Chicago’s foster care system.

Is Sinners the best movie of 2025 so far? We think it just might be.
In this episode, I’m joined by my friend and Sinners enthusiast Mikey Cody Apollo to break down Ryan Coogler’s ambitious, blood-soaked, and beautifully layered Southern horror film.
Set in 1930s Mississippi, Sinners isn’t your typical vampire flick — it’s a haunting blend of history, horror, and heart that’s got everyone talking.
We dig into the film’s emotional themes, Michael B. Jordan’s dual performance, and why music, silence, and Southern folklore play such a powerful role in the storytelling. Mikey’s seen it 3 times so far so trust — she came ready.
Spoiler alert: We talk full plot, key scenes, and theories. If you haven’t seen Sinners yet, come back when you're ready ;)

In this episode, I sit down with my incredible friend Alondra García—a powerhouse educator, activist, and advocate for immigrant communities. Alondra is a second-grade bilingual teacher from Milwaukee’s south side. As a DACA recipient, she knows firsthand the challenges immigrant families face—and she’s not afraid to stand up and fight for them.
And she’s got the receipts to back it up! Alondra has been recognized for her dedication with the 2020 Early Educator Award (Wisconsin Association of Colleges for Teacher Education), the 2021 Civil Rights Award (Voces de la Frontera), WEAC’s Tenia Jenkins Activist Award (2024-25), GSAFE’s 2025 Educator of the Year, and even a Women’s History Month citation from the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors.
We talk about her journey, the backlash she faced for simply helping immigrant families access legal resources (yes, really), and why knowing your rights is more important than ever—especially in this political climate. In the Trump era, conversations like these aren’t just important; they’re necessary. Schools should be safe havens, not places of fear.
So, if you care about immigrant rights, education, or just want to hear from someone who’s out here making real change, this episode is for you. ❤️

And let’s talk about those four Faithfuls splitting $200K — did we really need the Kum By Yah finale?
Plus, who discuss who in our dream cast for The Traitors Season 4.
