You know what made summer bearable in the summer afternoons of the 90's? Maach bhaat or the aam er jhol induced the much needed afternoon siesta. But, not before I could stretch out on the cool floor, a bolster under my head, a book in hand and my legs propped up on my grandmother's heaving tummy! "You know what happened...?" is how the stories started. And there would be stories of good and evil, stories of scientific wonder or even stories that made me dream. Here is an effort to bring back loving memories of stories in audio format for you to enjoy at leisure.

Sadbhaav - R K Narayan

Sometimes all you need is good will. Good people almost always find themselves in the company of good people. The ones who take care, the ones who ensure nothing bad happens and they are the ones who ensure there is goodness around them. Even if it were to be the only one standing up and fighting.

Such is the story of Sadbhaav (Goodwill) and how Rajam Ayyar ensures he will not succumb to any bullying nor will he allow a weak person to be bullied.

Ibnebatuti - Last Part

Ibenbatuta was actually a Moroccan explorer. Someone with wheels on his feet. A wanderer. A nomad. He loved to travel, meet new people, gain new experiences.

What is Ibnebatuti got to do with this story? It is the story of Shalu Awasthi, who was once a 20 year old girl, studying at Hindu College, doing street shows and enjoying doing drama in various streets, villages and cities. She was someone who could not remain idle. She was Ibnebatuti - and how she had transformed herself to reach a place in life, where she had stopped.

Ibnebatuti is a beautiful story of mother and son. Their relationship. Their Lucknowi andaaz of speech. Their little fights, their many make ups. The story touched a raw nerve when it came to pass that Shalu's son, Raghav was preparing to leave to study at Stanford University.

Who was Shalu? What was her story? Does Raghav, the son understand the mother or does he understand the young girl of 20?

Listen to the story of Raghav & his mother, Shalu through this humble narration.

The Music Room by Tarashankar Banerjee

The life of a zamindar was extravagant. It is often like the hindi saying, rassi jal gaya, par bal nahin gaya - meaning to say, that the rope may have been burnt, but it had not lost its strenth.

Bishwambhar Roy has seen the family's history. It's wealth, power, name and fame. He had also seen the Roy family's downfall over the seven generations. Some things are just innate - the pride of being a zamindar. But, is this pride worth it?
