You have to be prepared for this question:

Can you describe a time when you had to coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of a thematic area within a public health context, preferably related to HIV/AIDS?

Here's an example of a response using the STAR method:

Situation: In my previous role as a public health coordinator at XYZ Health Department, I was responsible for the oversight and execution of our department's annual HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment program.

Task: My task involved coordinating the monitoring and evaluation process of this thematic area. The aim was to measure the effectiveness of our program, identify areas of improvement, and strategize ways to boost our impact within the community. The challenge was to ensure that our methods of data collection were ethical and accurate, and that our analysis of the data was comprehensive and actionable.

Action: I began by assembling a diverse team of public health professionals to collaborate on this project. I delegated responsibilities based on the strengths of each team member, which included data collection, data analysis, and report writing.

To ensure accurate data collection, I collaborated with local healthcare providers and community organizations to access relevant data while strictly adhering to privacy regulations.

For data analysis, I led my team in developing a comprehensive analytical strategy that not only measured the success of our program based on quantifiable metrics but also took into account qualitative data collected from patient testimonials and feedback.

To ensure our findings were actionable, I coordinated a series of meetings with key stakeholders, where we discussed our results and brainstormed potential improvements to our program.

Result: As a result of these efforts, we were able to provide a thorough evaluation of our HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment program. Our evaluation led to a 15% increase in program funding for the following year, and we were able to implement several significant improvements to our program, leading to a 20% increase in the number of people reached by our services. This experience highlighted the importance of thorough monitoring and evaluation in public health and affirmed my ability to lead such initiatives effectively.
