In this edition of UBC "Sermon Discussions" Jason Wing answers questions related to his Genesis 46-47:12 sermon. The main idea for the sermon was: When we trust who God is, we can go wherever He leads. Questions discussed in this episode: Quote: "Genealogies are not fillers. They are the bloodline leading to Jesus.”  ~ Pastor Jason There were three characteristics of God that you taught us to see in this passage. God is faithful. God is sovereign. God is present. Q. Why doesn’t it feel like God is present as he seems to be in scripture? (Audible, physical) You ended your sermon with encouraging Jesus' followers to heed to God's calling in their lives even if when it seems it could be uncomfortable. Q. Sharing the gospel is uncomfortable for me to do. Should this concern me? Submitting to God to go where he is leading takes trust. Not on myself by fully on God. Q. What are some warning signs that show I might be relying on myself rather than God? When I think of trusting God it makes me think of the old hymn I used to sing growing up "I Surrender All" Q. What does “surrender all” to God really look like? As a reminder we have created a place where you can send us your questions regarding the sermons or topics we discuss in these podcasts. Sermon Discussions | Genesis Part 61: Ch. 42 & 43 with Dan Turner
In this edition of UBC "Sermon Discussions" Dan Turner answers questions related to his Genesis 42 & 43 sermon. The main idea for the sermon was: In a land of sin and sadness, God forms a clan of song and gladness. Questions discussed in this episode: What are ways we can see (not miss) the beauty in a mess? What are some things that we allow to get in the way, sometimes blinding us, to realizing that God is bringing us to repentance? I have given my life to Jesus and repented of my sins but I keep falling into (committing sin). What is wrong with me? If I have drifted from God, is there ever time he will give up on me? Sermon Discussions | Genesis Part 58: Ch. 39:1-23
In this edition of UBC "Sermon Discussions" Pastor Jason answers questions related to his Genesis 39:1-23 sermon. The main idea for the sermon was: The blessing of God’s presence will help us in times of life’s trials. Questions discussed in this episode: Why does God put us through Trials? ...Faithfulness to God doesn't always result in worldly blessings (meaning losing job, friends, family, or even life). Why would God put me through something like this if I am faithful to him? How do I know that God is with me? Is there ever a time that God isn't with me? Sexual immorality is probably one of the hardest things to flee. What are ways I can be prepared to flee sexual temptation? Was Jesus ever tempted sexually? Sermon Discussions | Genesis Part 57: Ch. 38:1-30
In this edition of UBC "Sermon Discussions" Pastor Jason answers questions related to his Genesis 38:1-30 sermon. The main idea for the sermon was: The same God who has a startling response to sin has startling redemption for sinners. Questions discussed in this episode:  God struck down Er and Onan for being evil, but not Judah. Why does he kill some people who are evil, but not others? In our passage, we saw the practice of levirate marriage which required men to have sex with family members. In today’s world, it’s illegal for people to be sexually active with their own family members. Why was it OK back then? In your shepherding of God's church, do you feel as though Christians take sin seriously or do they have a carefree attitude towards it? In your sermon you encouraged people to turn from sexual immorality. Is sexual sin worse than other sins? Why or why not? Can you speak to the dangers of pornography and why it is not something Christians can just ignore? Sermon Discussions | Genesis Part 56: Ch. 37:1-36
In this edition of UBC "Sermon Discussions" Pastor Jason answers questions related to his Genesis 37:1-36 sermon and comments on the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The main idea for the sermon was: When life seems to be killing your dreams, God is doing something bigger than you can imagine. Questions discussed in this episode:  Remind us why Joseph's story is an important part of biblical history? "God isn't merely watching all things in the world, he is working all things in the world." — Isn't this hard to believe in light of how evil our world seems? How do we have hope that God is in control of everything? What has most impacted you regarding Charlie Kirk's assassination?Do you think Charlie Kirk was a martyr? How can I have the confidence, courage, and unashamed boldness to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus fully knowing that it may cost me my life? How do we reconcile the differing views of Charlie Kirk since some Christians see him as a bold patriot and man of faith, and other Christians see him as a political bully and inconsistent example of Christ. Can both be true? How should I feel toward someone who celebrates the persecution of the saints? How could this galvanize what we’ve already been seeing a sign of awakening in our country and what can our church and individuals do to join in? How do we address this situation with our kids? In this edition of UBC "Sermon Discussions" Pastor Jason answers questions related to his Genesis 34:1-31 sermon. The main idea for the sermon was: God’s desire for His transformed people is that we are not conformed to the world around us. Questions discussed in this episode:  Disclaimer: This episode discusses topics of sexual abuse. Is it disobedient for a Christian to marry a non-Christian? What should a Christian do who willfully married a non-Christian? What should one do if they are involved in sexual immorality? What should someone who has been sexually abused or am being sexually abused do? Sermon Discussions | Vision Sunday - Acts 14:21-23
In this edition of UBC "Sermon Discussions" Pastor Jason answers questions related to his Vision Sunday: Acts 14:21-23 sermon. The main idea for the sermon was: We are a church whose focus is multiplication; not addition. Questions discussed in this episode: What are some tools that UBC offers to equip people to make disciples? I’m scared to preach the gospel because what if someone asked me a question about Jesus (or the Bible) that I don’t know? I’ve made a ton of mistakes. How am I someone who should be making disciples of Jesus? Do I have to wait until I’ve built a relationship with someone before I share the gospel with them? I know Jesus. I’ve committed my life to Him. I know I’m saved, but I don’t feel like I’ve ever been discipled? What does that look like and how do I know I have been discipled? I’m a young man and I desire to lead at UBC as an elder, deacon, or teaching a class but I’ve been discouraged in the past because I’ve been told I’m too young. What should I do?
