Premium Bonds, Coronation Street, Bread Week, Tasteless Tomatoes, Travelling Cat EP 214
This time… Premium Bonds… are they unique to the UK?  Coronation Street AXED?  How reporting is so different between sources.  Youtube viewers like Andy and Nick are losing patience with the length of videos, the ads, and the moaning vloggers!    Real bread week… why is sliced white so dreadful? We note the death of actor Brian Murphy and discuss 70s sitcoms. Why are tomatoes so tasteless?  Finally… a good news story about a well-travelled cat!  Its all here! Special: The Future of TV viewing… a discussion on how we are watching TV in a different way. EP 213
This edition, we have themed our podcast.  Today we talk about the future of television.

Nick is a minimal viewer of television being more of a radio, podcast and Youtube fan.  Andy actually teaches television production skills in a college. We think you’ll find this an interesting debate with some interesting questions and fascinating answers.

We explore what’s known as linear television (old fashioned viewing as broadcast) and then look at how people are consuming programmes now.  Do we still turn on to view at certain times?  How are younger people watching?  Do older viewers stick with the same channel all evening?

What do you watch and when? Have you ditched traditional TV viewing?

What do you think?  We really love to hear from you.

Heritage Railways, reliance on volunteers, punters, cheese. EP 212 Two Voices Radio Podcast
This time Nick and Andy are together in the studio.  They discuss a recent visit to the Watercress Line (Mid Hants Heritage Railway).  The podcast leads on to the wider discussion on the popularity of heritage steam and diesel railways in the UK including the Great Central Railway in Loughborough & The Severn Valley Railway in Kidderminster.   There is a big reliance on volunteers.  Nick and Andy discuss the advantages (and sometimes) disadvantages to organisations in having a volunteer base.

Plus... they ask what sort of people go to heritage railways and what are their expectations of a day out?

At the end they sample some Hampshire cheese and talk... as Waitrose fancily term it "terroir".

Closed restaurants, gawping, soaps, rewards, 1980's prices. EP 211
Andy asks what happens to the furniture in restaurants when they close down? Nick has some espresso cups courtesy of his aunty from a closed down Wimpy Bar.

We talk about gawping through the windows while people are working… it’s your BBC… except it isn’t! Andy talks about the quality of soap operas.  Nick reveals how he likes to pretend he’s presenting daytime TV from IKEA room sets.

We talk about supermarket loyalty cards, how very variable their rewards are, and the cost of shopping in the 80s.  Plus…if you’re in Wales at any time… visit St Fagans National Museum of History... it’s fascinating.

London Walking and Talking - Two Voices Radio Podcast EP209
This episode is different from the norm.  Nick and Andy decided to go for a walk around London and are pleased to have you along to eavesdrop on their conversation!

Join us as we start on the Goswell Road near Farringdon Station in London, we go to Angel Islington, then end up in Nisbets. Central London is too busy so we jump on a bus that's hotter than the sun and end up touring via Limehouse via the Docklands Light Railway!  We end up at Canary Wharf.   It's the usual rambling chat you know and love but with a bit of walking and a change of scenery.

This time we're limited to 40 minutes due to poor technology.  Hello to Abigail!  We talk about another narrowboat holiday via Atherstone and a visit to a good old fashioned bakery.  Plus we visit Birmingham. Why is Birmingham always slated? We love it!  Plus... Nick mentions a Two Voices Radio Presentation Skills course he's hosting for 5 weeks in Brentford and how it has some wonderful attendees.  Finally... how often do you clean your toothbrush?

It's all here and as random as usual!

Cereal for dinner, Crooked House, Radio Off Air, Old Fashioned hotels. EP 207
This time… we start with cereal for dinner… you won’t believe the suggestion of the USA Kellogg’s boss.

We look at the Crooked House Pub in Dudley, West Midlands… it’s an intriguing story.  We talk about re-use of buildings and the surprising number of new buildings still appearing.  Plus… the radio station currently off air… for a very strange reason.

We talk our perennial favourite topic… hotel stays… from chain hotels to a recent stay we have made at an old fashioned hotel in Bournemouth.   Andy tells us why he always feels a bit queasy in guest houses but how we loved our traditional bed, breakfast and evening meal bargain.   Don’t forget… if you are in the UK and travel by train… get a bolt-on PlusBus ticket for good value travel for silly money... that's what we do.

Please get in touch, we love to hear from you… tell us where you are.  Send a message via the website: twovoices.co.uk

Money, Bank of England, Stock Exchange, Pubs with rooms, Narrowboat Pirate ep 206
This time...we talk about old bank notes, the Bank of England and the Stock Exchange.

The UK appears to now be a coffee culture over tea.

We talk about moving to other countries and learning the language.

We love a stay in a "pub with rooms" but notice young people come down to hotel breakfasts with their bags and coats on. What's that all about?

Mixtapes and owning music... with the rise of online music... Nick realises that we don't actually own our own music anymore... its quite sad... but equally... quite efficient!

We talk the rent culture and how the UK is all about owning, whereas European cities are filled with renters. That gets us onto the annoyance of Brexit (something we've avoided discussing before!)

Finally... Andy makes a great recommendation that you tune in to a wonderful Youtuber "The Narrowboat Pirate". Heidi is fabulous. She has a filthy sense of humour and you'll love her... like we do!

Christmassss! Cuddly toys, retail roundup, Christmas household deathtraps! EP 205
Christmas cuddly toys linked with shops – from Venus flytraps to Caterpillars. There’s our usual Retail Roundup. Wilkos is back open in Luton. Smarter M&S stores. Local Radio…not so local. Shirts with pleats… avoid. The robotic café with GPS. Nick reveals potential Christmas death-traps around the house. He finds it difficult to keep a straight face… not because the issue isn’t serious but by the way the article was written. We think you may laugh along!

Please do us a Christmas favour… share our podcast or leave us a review wherever you get your podcasts. Speak soon in 2024. (Nick and Andy)

Communications, moving trains, recycling, weather, Wilkos, awful sandwiches, Neighbours. EP 203
This time… Andy has a moan about unnecessary communications from companies… Nick cannot walk through a moving train. Why are the recycling systems so different across the country?

Two further questions… why are the British never prepared for the weather and why our trains are so expensive? As predicted Wilkos has finally gone bust. Andy reminds us of the bargain food mixer he bought from there. We talk fitness, walking and poor supermarket sandwiches when you do decide to go out for the day. That leads us onto poor bread!

Finally… Andy tells us how Neighbours has returned to TV. He tells us what he thinks of it. It’s all here… get in touch via the website: twovoices.co.uk

Brighton, Fire, Dawlish, Wilko, Greggs, Temu, Project Bakeover EP202
We’re back after a summer break. We went to Brighton on the weekend of the big hotel fire (we had nothing to do with it!). We talk about Brighton’s faded grandeur but we can recommend a decent fish and chip shop.

Andy talks about Dawlish… another fine place to visit and how the railway runs right along the seafront but advises you don’t drive to Devon. We talk about our old friend the train day ranger.

In retail roundup Wilko a major 400 store chain in the UK looks like it’s going bust. Andy tells us Greggs bakeries are going to go into Sainsburys Supermarkets. We think that’s a bit tacky!

We are probably contributing to the demise of the High Street as we have started shopping on Temu… and find it surprisingly good.

Finally… we talk about a series we have found based in Canada called Project Bakeover. Series 1 was great but series 2 has some rather strange quirks. Have you seen it? Get in touch: nick@twovoices.co.uk

Heritage brands, Biggins, Ice-creams, E-numbers, weather, weed killer! EP 201

This time… we are looking at heritage brands. Why are old brands popular again? Nick is drinking Slush Puppie fizzie and it’s delicious (and cheap). Do you remember from the 70s orange “juice” in a packet? Andy remembers his mum throwing away things with E-numbers in as Plymouth Sound Radio told her to!

With a heritage theme we talk about actors from our childhood coming back including Christopher Biggins with a podcast interviewing his friends.

We look at the hefty price of ice-creams from ice-cream vans and discuss buying an ice-cream maker…. then ask why is the weather in the UK tropical? We have four seasons of weather in one day. It didn’t used to be like this! Plus… Andy has weed-killer woes.

Finally… we ask if we are in the wrong job… should we become the seagull scarer of Whitby? that’s where the money is.

Two Voices Radio Podcast. Our 200th EPISODE!
We've reached Episode 200! We talk about our first ever episode that came from our Radio LaB 97.1FM radio show. We look at the Eurovision Song Contest… why so much fuss this year? TV licence fees… We find that it's not just the UK that has one. Who pays for all these subscription channels? Andy tries to find a way to learn foreign languages via TV channels. Other countries are much better at languages than the British. Why is that? Plus...Nick unusually does some binge watching of Welsh TV drama.… Our recommended watch is: Banjo Beale - Designing the Hebrides. Thank you for supporting us for 200 episodes. This time... we discuss using webcams and choosing backgrounds. Andy is suffering but bored at being home watching daytime TV. Loose Woman and Carol McGiffin. Heir Hunters... The only programme with no reveal. We talk about the drama "Nolly" based on Crossroads actress Noele Gordon that leads us on to talk about the BBC in Birmingham and their big plans. Plus... the drive thru bakery and the whole drive thru concept. John Lewis word salad. Sports Direct is using face scanning software. Messing around with hot cross buns... and wash it down with an olive oil coffee blah!

We discuss the Greggs Bakery Outlets and find out which retailer provides the strongest coffee on the High Street. We remember buying ground coffee in the 80s.
