Ep.147: The Uncancelled Supergroup

It's yet another dose of pure music podcast lovliness from us here at Trve. Cvlt. Pop!

On this episode Steve and Gaz concoct a fictional supergroup made up entirely of artists that have been a wee bit naughty over the year (putting it lightly) but that have never experienced a full blown #Cancelled moment. Needless to say, this has some pretty adult themes.

We also pay tribute to Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds, who sadly passed away this week, chat Talking Heads not reforming, review recent shows by Chase and Status in London and Gojira in Eindhoven and, as usual, there's a 90's pop song that you've definitely forgotten about for us to remind you of.

Ep.142: Napalm Death Discography Deep Dive + Black Sabbath & 2000 Trees Review

Welcome to another episode of Trve. Cvlt. Pop! the pop... sorry, the heavy metal music podcast, for a week anyway.

On this epiosde Metal Hammer's own Rich Hobson is in the hot seat with Steve as Gaz continues to recover, and he has been a busy boy! Travelling around the globe to watch all the live music he can stuff into his greedy ear. Including the last ever Black Sabbath show at Villa Park and the 2000 Trees festival. He reviews both, before we get into our main point of conversation.

Since their formation in the year 1981, Birmingham noise terrorists Napalm Death have been the most reliable and experimental of all of the extreme metal legends. There's been line up changes, sonic deviations into all manner of new sounds, highs, lows and everything in between. But here we delve into every single one of their 16 studio albums and pick our favourite song from it. Hopefully, giving you a guided tour of one of the most important bands in heavy music history.

There's also a few new musical recommendations, from Blood Vulture, Barry Can't Swim, Jessica Winter, Clipse and Bully.

Ep.141: The Problem with Music Biopics

Welcome back to another Trve. Cvlt. Pop! it's the polyjamorous... nah, it's not... it's a music podcast.

On this week's show, Sam is here and we look at the slew of music biopics that have been released over the last couple of decades, and show no sign of stopping, and ask; why are they so bad?

From a shy Freddie Mercury with awful false teeth to a mockney Amy Winehouse getting blamed for her drug addiction, music biopics almost universally miss the entire purpose of what made their intended subject matter so special, and instead rely on cliches, formulaic structures, surface level performances and watered down versions of events.

Here, we look at the problems with the genre, what can be done to improve them, what we fear is coming next and a couple of our own pitches that Hollywood might just want to consider picking up.

There's also some new music recommendations and a lost banger from the past by Oxidde and Neutrino to chat about.

Ep.138: Download vs. Outbreak vs. TCP vs PC&L

Hey there, welcome back to Trve. Cvlt. Pop! the music podcast.

On this week's show two giants of the festival season face off, and so do two... not actually giants of the podcast world.

The lads Dave and Krister from the Pop, Collaborate and Listen podcast are back as we look at the last weekend and compare and contrast Download 2025 and the London iteration of Outbreak.

It's festival vs. festival; Green Day vs. Turnstile, queues for Knocked Loose vs. queues for President, sunshine and beer vs. sunshine and tequila cocktails. Who comes out on top?!

Plus we recall a fantastic Lost. Cvlt. Pop! banger from Rob & Raz featuring Laila K.

Ep.137: The A-Z of Atrocities (U, V, W)

It's time for us all to enjoy another Trve. Cvlt. Pop!, it's a music podcast!

On this week's show, Steve and Gaz get hoping mad, and they're not going to take it any more! As we head back into the A-Z of Atrocities, serving up some verbal beatdowns to our own particular pet peeves in the world of music from the letter U, V and W.

Expect fury at fan voted lists, the frustrating world of River Cuomo post-1996, band's changing their line ups too much and a certain band giving you a free album in your I-Tunes back in 2014... yeah, that ol' chestnut.

Plus we pay our respects to a true legend of pop culture, Sly Stone whose spectacular life ended this week at the age of 82. But what a legacy he leaves behind.

There's also a lost pop from not so long back by London goth, trip-hop, alt-rock mash up hero Ghostpost.
