I was literally just having a casual connection call with this awesome woman Sharli and within like...2 minutes I had this intense intuitive pull to ask if she wanted to turn this convo into a podcast episode
so here we are lol
Sharli's been practicing Focusing - a therapeutic approach all about focusing attention on internal sensations to gain insight/clarity - for over 30 YEARS.
and what I love is she's made it her own.
it's not some rigid technique...it's become a way of being for her.
here's what we dove into during this convo:
→ what the fck is Focusing (and why your body already knows how to do it)
→ the gentleness required to actually heal vs. the forcing we're conditioned to do
→ how your pain just wants a WITNESS...not a fixer, not a savior, just someone to SEE it
→ why that part of you that wants ice cream all day isn't sabotaging you - it's trying to tell you something
→ Sharli's journey from devout Mormon to "praying to mystery" (LOVED this part of our convo and legit teared up)
→ visibility as practice - from "Sharli show-off" as a kid to decades of hiding to finding her way back
→ how symbols (tarot, astrology, your body's sensations) all speak the same language
→ trusting your intuition when it makes ZERO logical sense
the thing that hit me hardest:
Sharli talked about how in focusing, you don't DO things to your pain.
you don't breathe light into it.
you don't try to transform it.
you just...let it BE there.
you get curious about it.
and it changes on it's own.
that's the exact opposite of how we're taught to "heal" right??
we're always trying to fix and force and improve
but what if the work is just...being WITH yourself?
what if the mystery is where all the magic lives? ooOoOoo
this episode is for you if:
Sharli shares how Focusing helped her through leaving the Mormon church, finding her spirituality again, reclaiming visibility after years of hiding.
and honestly?
this conversation reminded me why I do this work.
because when we give ourselves permission to just FEEL what we feel without trying to change it...
when we witness our pain instead of weaponizing positivity against it...
when we trust the mystery instead of needing certainty...
everything shifts.
not because we forced it.
but because we finally stopped fighting ourselves.
grab your headphones + make some tea.
listen in.
