Our Guest President this week, leading the members Tony Slattery’s Rambling Club, is none other than the star of Jeeves and Wooster, Holby City and expert on the wonderful PG Wodehouse Robert Daws! Come and join in as guest President Daws leads us on a ramble through three special destinations chosen entirely at random with the use of Tony’s enchanted bingo machine. As ever, the omniscient voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to keep a hand on the lead of the Alsatian of ignorance!
First stop is destination number 216: Good And Evil. Straight in with the easy stuff! Luckily Bob played a character so unpleasant on Holby City that he was on the receiving end of some rather harsh judgement from the public, which allows the team to explore the blurred lines between good and evil and how you go about portraying such things as an actor.
Number 526 is our final destination-Mathematical Geometry. This one is rather tricky. Bob Bob and Paul failed Maths at GCSE level and not even Allan can help this time! But that doesn't matter as thoughts quickly turn to the famed PG Wodehouse. A fascinating ramble through his life awaits, including how he fell foul of the Nazi Party through naivety in the 1930s and this most quintessential of Englishmen was unable to ever return to Britain.
You can see Bob in Wodehouse In Wonderland at the Edinburgh Fringe every evening at 6.10pm at Studio 3 at Assembly, George Square Gardens.

After all that it’s time to head back down the garden path to Tony’s shed, to relax and realise there's a lot to be said for wearing Tweed all Summer.

Our Guest President this week, leading the members Tony Slattery’s Rambling Club, is none other than television icon and Doctor Who assistant extraordinaire Sophie Aldred! Come and join in as guest President Aldred leads us on a ramble through three special destinations chosen entirely at random with the use of Tony’s enchanted bingo machine. As ever, the omniscient voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to keep a hand on the lead of the Alsatian of ignorance!
First stop is destination number 779: Photographs. Sophie has seven garden sheds! Which is quite handy as she has a huge archive of photographs she’s working through. Time for a ramble through the magic of photographs as we seek an answer to the question: matt or gloss?
After that we’re off to number 733 awaits- Greek, Etruscan and Roman Sculpture. No problems for our intrepid ramblers with this one, which encounters a work of art so depraved that it features trigger warnings in the British Museum!
Number 376 is our final destination-The Education of Women. A rather pompous sounding subject, but a passionate ramble awaits, alongside a chat about the legendary Acton Hilton, the rehearsal rooms of BBC Television!
After all that it’s time to head back down the garden path to Tony’s shed, to relax after rather a packed show.
If nothing else it should offer some protection from the Nitro-9!

They think it's all over...but it ruddy well isn;t because our very special guest President this week is none other than the legendary Nick Hancock!
Join us as guest President Hancock leads us on a ramble through three special destinations chosen entirely at random with the use of Tony’s enchanted bingo machine. As ever, the omniscient voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to keep a finger on the tiller of the good ship Toss!
First stop is at number 392- Customs of Life Cycle and Domestic Life. And Marsupials (because the President wills it so.) The hangover of WW2 rationing into the 1980s, the ITV/BBC dichotomy, overdosing on sugar and how easy it is to get caught out abroad. A right old ramble through individual customs awaits, along with the important question- 'Who cooked breakfast in your house?'
We then take a leap to 794- Indoor Games of Skill. The question here is what constitutes a "sport"? This turns out to be a trickier question than one might have assumed!
Our third and final ramble takes us to number 113- Cosmology- The Philosophy of Nature. A story of an altercation in a car park with tales of Jeremy Clarkson and the legendary Peter Cook await us...not sure what it has to do with Cosmology though!
After that it's back to the Presidential Shed where Nick remembers our lovely Tony and tells us who he was to him.

Our very special guest President this week is none other than the star of the legendary Oliver! Mark Lester!
Join us as guest President Lester leads us on a ramble through three special destinations chosen entirely at random with the use of Tony’s enchanted bingo machine. As ever, the omniscient voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to keep a finger on the tiller of the good ship Toss!
First stop is at number 634- Orchards, Fruits and Forestry. A broad subject to begin with. What impact did nature have on the young actor, Mark Lester, and what about now? Adventures from boyhood await!
Our second stopping point is number 304- Factors Affecting Social Change. Were things better back in the day, and what has happened to society of late? A deep dive into modernity awaits…
Our third and final ramble takes us to number 813- Fiction. President Lester, a veteran of the world of film, is bound to have some stories for us here…but how did he and members of the Rambling Club get a glimpse of the legendary A Clockwork Orange back in the day?

"He never does podcasts". Apparently not true, because our very special guest President this week is none other than the star of Withnail & I and Doctor Who, Paul McGann!
Join us as guest President McGann leads us on a ramble through three special destinations chosen entirely at random with the use of Tony’s enchanted bingo machine. As ever, the omniscient voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to keep a finger on the tiller of the good ship Toss!
First stop is at number 391- Costume & Personal Appearance. Who better to talk to than the dapper President McGann? Tales await of why Joe is a better dresser than Paul and we ask "do clothes maketh the man?"
Our second stopping point is number 123- Determinism and Indeterminism. Is there such a thing as free will? We travel back to Liverpool in the 1960s to find our answer.
Our third and final ramble takes us to number783- Music For Single Voices. President McGann is no stranger to singing. But is this ramble heading in a very different direction?

They say you can have too much of a good thing. But they’re quite wrong!
We see a return visit for a very popular guest President this week, as the members of Tony Slattery’s Rambling Club release TV News Anchor Extraordinaire Simon McCoy from the confines of Tony’s News Dungeon!
Join us as guest President McCoy leads us on a ramble through three special destinations chosen entirely at random with the use of Tony’s enchanted bingo machine. As ever, the omniscient voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to keep a finger on the tiller of the good ship Toss!
First stop is at number 210- Natural Theology. Is there a God? Do we need there to be a God. Can we find our own theology through interacting with nature? Best get the easy stuff out of the way first today I suppose.
Our second stopping point is number 387- Water, Air, Space Transportation. Nice and broad. Why Elon Musk is wrong, why the Earth is doomed, why things never really change on the news are on the agenda for this ramble.
Our third and final ramble takes us to number 616- Diseases. The second time this one has come up! Last time was with Robin Askwith (https://shows.acast.com/tony-slatterys-rambling-club/episodes/robin-askwith-is-he-talking-about-dwarves) and that opened a whole can of worms! Covid, and Long Covid in particular, what Doctors don’t know, the Black Death, why Bramwell Bronte went mad, the hazards of drinking corpse water, James Bond, Lord of the Rings, Neighbours…yep. Another can of worms awaits.

They say two heads are better than one. Well, we have two Guest Presidents this week leading the members Tony Slattery’s Rambling Club. Not only do we have the legend that is Con O'Neill, but also his Blood Brothers co-star and the partner of our lovely President Tony Slattery, Mark Hutchinson!
Join us as guest Presidents O'Neill and Hutchinson lead us on a ramble through three special destinations chosen entirely at random with the use of Tony’s enchanted bingo machine. As ever, the omniscient voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to keep a finger on the button of bullshit!
First stop is destination number 433: German Dictionaries. Well, one of the team speaks German, but despite this it doesn't take long before they're well off subject.
Then we’re off to 112- No Longer Assigned (Philosophy & Psychology)- a chance for the team to reflect on what has gone wrong with the world of late, and also the question of individual philosophies.
Finally we find ourselves at Number 822- English Drama. Familiar ground for everyone. Scurrilous tales of nights out in Hollywood, personal acting methodology, and a legitimate opportunity for Paul to bang on about Crossroads, thanks to the recent ITV drama 'Nolly', in which Con starred.
After all that it’s time to head back down the garden path to Tony’s shed, and an opportunity for the team to decompress after a lively, and really rather sweary, ramble..

As ever, the omniscient voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to keep a firm hand on the tiller of toss!
Our only destination this week is 440: Romance Languages (French). Well it doesn’t take long for this to go off topic, and you can discover exactly how Terry Nutkins lost several fingers! Luckily Ted is not also a remarkable comedian, but he’s very knowledgeable as well. A fascinating ramble through Ted’s own story as well as both Rabbie Burns and Shakespeare is on the cards!
Then before you know it, we’re back in the shed. However that’s not all as Ted worked with our lovely and much-missed Tony Slattery back in the day. That means it’s time to share some memories and stories of our fabulous guest President!
If nothing else it’ll keep you from sticking your fingers in any otters.

Why it’s none other than Mitch Benn, joining us to ramble through two special destinations chosen entirely at random with the use of Tony’s enchanted bingo machine. As always, the omniscient voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to keep an eye on the ripple of rubbish!
First stop is destination number 216. Here’s a strange one: No Longer Used- Formerly Evil! Excellent. Confusing and terrifying all in one. Stand by for tales of gigs and a rather large amount of Columbian marching powder!
Then we’re off to 776- Computer Art. A controversial subject with some controversial views, as you might expect!
After all that it’s time to head back down the garden path to Tony’s shed…but it’s not all over yet. The chat never ends, as you’ll see here…

After that number 663 awaits- Beverage Technology. It really doesn’t take the team long to realise they know very little on this subject, however a few behind the scenes secrets from Ted Lasso make up for that!
Number 815 is our final destination- Speeches. This one provides no problems whatsoever!
After all that it’s time to head back down the garden path to Tony’s shed, to relax after rather a packed show.

Then number 367 awaits- General Clubs. Aside from the Rambling Club, is there any other club to belong to

Two guest Presidents? Well why not! Joining us this week we have both Robin Ince and James Payton! Can the bingo machine, as ever soothing the way with its voice which isn’t entirely unreminiscent of Sir Stephen Fry, cope with transporting four ramblers into the great outdoors?
First stop is destination number 494: Altaic, Uralic, Hyperborean, Dravidian languages. Well could it be that the bingo machine is playing a trick as Allan is convinced they’ve wandered down that pathway once before! That certainly doesn’t stop our ramblers.
After that surely the machine will be kind to us with her next selection?
886: Not Used. Hmm…well, let’s see what they manage to do with that!
After all that it’s time to head back down the garden path to Tony’s shed, to get the kettle on and give those legs a rest.
If nothing else it’s better than a kick up t’pants!
Tony Slattery’s Rambling Club is a free-associating conversation, involving very special guests. It drops every Friday on every podcasting outlet known to man. We’d love it if you came along for the walk. If nothing else, it’ll help you get your steps in!

We are so happy that our Guest President this week, leading the members Tony Slattery’s Rambling Club, is none other than Tony’s friend and collaborator, Mike McShane! Come and join in as guest President McShane leads us on a ramble through two special destinations chosen entirely at random with the use of Tony’s enchanted bingo machine. As ever, the omniscient voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to keep a hand on the lead of the Alsatian of ignorance!
First stop is destination number 742: Perspective. A subject you can take in many ways, and the Rambling Club do their best to explore a lot of them
After that number 416 awaits- Language. A right old ramble enshews, as does some very fruity language! Don’t say you weren’t warned!
After all that it’s time to head back down the garden path to Tony’s shed, to relax after rather a packed show.
If nothing else it’ll keep you busy whilst the weather works out what it’s up to!

Surely any podcast would make sure if they had a star of a certain famous sci-fi show as their guest the day before a brand new series, the hosts would at least talk about it said show?
Not the Rambling Club!
Our Guest President this week, leading the members Tony Slattery’s Rambling Club, is none other than television icon and Doctor Who assistant Katy Manning! Come and join in as guest President Manning leads us on a ramble through three special destinations chosen entirely at random with the use of Tony’s enchanted bingo machine. As ever, the omniscient voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to keep a hand on the lead of the Alsatian of ignorance!
First stop is destination number 307: Communities. Where to start with that one? It doesn’t really matter as they’re off subject within a matter of minutes!
After that number 133 awaits- Parapsychology and Occultism. A lesson awaits here- the actress and the character are not the same. One day we’ll discuss spooky things with someone who believes in such things! However, two tales of non-existent appendicitis? Surely that’s a bit spooky? Isn’t it?
Number 791 is our final destination- public performances. And we don’t mean having a wee in the street. Off we go…
After all that it’s time to head back down the garden path to Tony’s shed, to relax after rather a packed show.
If nothing else it’ll kill time whilst we await these tariffs!

We have a confession to make. Our guest President, taking the reins for this weeks edition of Tony Slattery’s Rambling Club us none other than the legendary Robin Askwith! Come and join us as Robin leads us on a ramble through three special destinations chosen entirely at random with the use of Tony’s enchanted bingo machine. As ever, the omniscient voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to keep a hand on the tightarse of the duck of bullshit.
First stop is destination number 616: Diseases. A jolly one to start with but would you believe our guest president spent almost a year in an Iron Lung as a boy? What influence did that have on his life?
After that number 910 awaits- Geography & Travel. Tales of travel and geography teachers abound along with a glimpse behind the doors of Inside Number 9! It doesn’t take too long for this to wander off course and, before you know it, Leonard Rossiter is playing Hitler in a Brecht piece!
After all that it’s time to head back down the garden path to Tony’s shed, the roaring fire providing welcome relief after possibly our longest ramble yet before President Askwith bids us a fond farewell.
If nothing else, it’ll keep allow you to ignore the podcast tariffs we are introducing.

Prepare yourself! Our Guest President this week, leading the members Tony Slattery’s Rambling Club, is none other than Britain's number one Battleaxe, Christine Hamilton! Come and join us as guest President Hamilton takes us rambling three special destinations chosen entirely at random with the use of Tony’s enchanted bingo machine. As ever, the omniscient voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to ensure it doesn’t all get out of hand!
First stop is destination number 002: The Book. This could be taken any way but the big question is, will Paul manage not to bang on about bloody Shakespeare.
Then we’re off to number 383- Postal Communication. Does our intrepid band miss the days of waiting for a letter or are they more at home with instantaneous messaging?
Finally we arrive at number 638- Insect Culture. Now one of our merry band has had quite the insect experience but did you know our lovely Tony was almost a contestant on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here? If only he hadn’t brought religion up…
After all that it’s time to head back down the garden path to Tony’s shed.
If nothing else, it’s better than a kick in the pants!

A knock at the door heralds the return of an old friend. Yes, it’s the Reverend Robin Ince here to lead the members Tony Slattery’s Rambling Club on another wander through a special destination chosen at random with the use of Tony’s enchanted bingo machine. As ever, the calming voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to maintain good order.
Our only stop this week is number 748: Glass. Is there really that much to say about glass? Who knows, because the ramble heads off in all manner of directions and before you know it you’re looking at the corpses on the set of Eldorado.
After what you encounter today you’ll want to head back down the garden path to Tony’s shed, the roaring fire awaiting us as our ramble concludes for this week. If nothing else it’ll make yer eyes water!

Hello, and here is the news. Our Guest President this week, leading the members Tony Slattery’s Rambling Club, is none other than news anchor extraordinaire Simon McCoy! Come and join in as guest President McCoy runs free from his television news cell and leads us on a ramble through three special destinations chosen entirely at random with the use of Tony’s enchanted bingo machine. As ever, the omniscient voice of Sir Stephen Fry is on hand to keep a hand on the tiller of the boat of incompetence.
First stop is destination number 390: Customs, Etiquette and Folklore. That’s an odd combination to start with. When it comes to etiquette you can be sure that the former Royal News Correspondent of Sky News will have a tale or two.
After that number 432 awaits- German Etymology. Nobody present can speak German ( and we don’t count Paul’s “over the level crossing”). This could be a bit tricky.
Finally we find ourselves at number 532- Specific Celestial Bodies. Simon has bought telescope. Off we go…
After all that it’s time to head back down the garden path to Tony’s shed, the roaring fire providing welcome relief after quite a ramble before President McCoy must be resealed in his studio.
