After two nominations and endless support from her dedicated fans, Pat Benatar has finally been inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside her musical partner and husband, Neil Giraldo. Although Nirvana seems to get the credit for opening the world to the Alternative Nation, Jane’s Addiction leader Perry Farrell was the one who literally coined the term “Alternative Nation.” After releasing three groundbreaking records, the band broke up in 1991. They have had various attempts at reviving its legacy, and are making a strong claim recently by welcoming back founding member Eric Avery. Minutemen were to hardcore what The Talking Heads were to punk. D Boon, Mike Watt and George Hurley, the three "corndogs" from San Pedro that drove the Minutemen style of Econo punk rock, understood that being punk meant breaking down all the establishment borders. The day Roland Orzabal laid eyes on a handsome Indian looking fellow in Bath England, (he wasn't Indian), Curt Smith and Roland became a musical force that eventually became Tears for Fears. Jeff Mangum and his fellow Ruston, Louisiana buddies in Elephant 6 had a lot of bands with a lot silly names. Apples in Stereo, Olivia Tremor Control, Cranberry Lifestyle, System Flying Machine, Elf Power... just to name a select few. Of all of these groups, one really captured the imagination of the indie rock world; Neutral Milk Hotel. With the help of schoolyard friend and musical companion Robert Schneider, the recording project that eventually morphed into the four piece we know and love recorded two incredibly beautiful, noisy and influential records, In The Aeroplane Over the Sea and On Avery Island.
