This week I’m talking about hope, fear, and oatmeal.
After a rough week, I’m feeling a little lighter — and a little more hopeful — thanks to some surprising election results, good friends, and a fridge full of almond milk. I answer listener calls about faith, fear, and finding peace in a chaotic world.
Topics include:
Trigger warning: brief mention of suicide and addiction recovery.

I’m back, after a month rest. This week, I’m keeping it honest. Sometimes life feels heavy, and I just needed to talk about it.
⚠️ Trigger warning: I talk a bit about depression and my lifelong struggle with suicidal ideation in this episode. It’s not all gloom, but I feel it’s my responsibility to warn people in case that’s triggering.
Luckily, there’s also humor, hope, and a lot of love (plus a few jokes at my own expense) This isn’t a sad episode. It’s about learning to laugh through the hard stuff, finding light in strange places, and remembering that being human means feeling everything.
Whether you’re an atheist, a believer, or just someone doing your best — you’re welcome here.

No full episode this week — just a short check-in. Between art fairs, performances, and nonstop work, I needed a breather. But I didn’t want to leave you hanging. So here’s some honesty: life is busy, haters are loud, and authenticity matters more than being universally liked.
I’ll be back next week with a full episode, but in the meantime: call in, leave me your thoughts, and remember — it’s okay to take a pause.

Trump is openly threatening free speech — from suspending Jimmy Kimmel to suggesting TV licenses be revoked for criticizing him, and even calling Pride flags “domestic terrorism.” In this emotional episode, I dig into how dangerous this all is, share my own story of being gay-bashed, and reflect on why Pride matters now more than ever.
Plus: listener calls about morality without God, resentment vs. gratitude, irrational fears, and why community still gives me hope.

This episode almost didn’t happen. After the shooting of right-wing provocateur Charlie Kirk, I was consumed with grief, rage, and old trauma — especially watching friends grieve for a man who thought people like me were an “abomination.”
It’s shorter than usual, raw, and unfiltered. I talk about:
It’s not polished. It’s just real.

Pride, MAGA protests, and a kazoo-fueled Chappell Roan anthem — this week I tackle politics, queer joy, and why our voices still matter.
Pride is coming to my small Tennessee town, and while I’m excited to sell my art, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about potential protesters. In today’s America — where Trump and Christian Nationalists are pushing bathroom bans, rainbow crosswalk hysteria, and nonstop attacks on queer people — showing up for Pride feels both joyous and risky.
In this episode, I dig into:
I also take listener calls about finding joy when things feel hopeless, what faith looks like without God, the absurdity of rock stars thanking God for their luck, and respond to an angry message demanding to know “what rights” religion has supposedly lost.
It’s Pride, protest, heartbreak, laughter — and ultimately, a reminder that joy and community still win. Join me, your favorite "gay, liberal atheist living in the Bible Belt" and let's make sense of it all together.

Trump says people want a dictator — and for MAGA, that’s a selling point, not a threat. Here’s why I almost lost hope this week… and how your calls brought me back.
This week I almost didn’t record. Watching Trump inch America closer to fascism — sending troops into cities, threatening free speech with flag-burning bans, and bragging that people want a dictator — left me feeling hopeless. And here’s the twisted part: for his MAGA base, “dictator” isn’t a threat, it’s a selling point. That’s how cults work. But by the end of this episode, I realized one voice may feel small, but millions of voices together can still change things. Even a silly podcast like mine is part of that chorus.
Along the way, I take listener calls (including one about having gay MAGA friends), reflect on what I miss about believing in God, share my favorite childhood movies, talk about the role of instigators in building community, and answer a surprise question from Corey about my work ethic. It’s a messy, emotional, and ultimately hopeful ride.

In this episode, I confront the “triggered” meme conservatives love to toss around (you know the one ...with the crazy looking lady?) They use it to shame liberals, but here’s the truth: I’m proud to be triggered by the horrific things Trump, his corrupt administration and and the entire alt-right Christian Nationalist agenda is shoving into our world. What I don’t get is why the stuff they get triggered about is so… lame. (A fake “war on Christmas”? A single Bud Light can with a transgender woman’s face on it? Really?)
Along the way, I take your voicemails, rant about Trump’s idiotic takeover of Washington DC, side-eye Marsha Blackburn’s bid for Tennessee governor (spoiler: not a fan), and crown comedienne Elayne Boosler my official “Hero of the Week” for her incredible work with homeless animals. It’s politics, pop culture, and plenty of unfiltered opinions — the good kind of triggered from your favorite gay, liberal atheist living in the Bible Belt! https://www.danieljcartier.com/
I Was Promised Godless Orgies!
Turns out, being an atheist isn’t all wine, orgies, and righteous indignation. In this episode, I count down 10 things that actually suck about being a nonbeliever — from awkward moments with religious friends, to “concerned” strangers offering prayers I didn’t ask for. PLUS: Texas Showdown with Democrats and Republicans, Trump calls Lauren Boebert a "MAGA Warrior" (whatever that means) and a return visit from everyone's favorite homophobic Kentucky County Clerk, Kim Davis (spoiler: she’s still awful).
I attend my first atheist convention and meet some surprising allies — former Christian Nationalists (including Star Spangled Jesus author April LaJoy) who’ve embraced progressive values and now stand as firmly against Trump as I do. Speaking of which, I dig into Trump’s disturbing new memo allowing federal employees to promote their religion at work — even to subordinates. Plus: listener voicemails, dream duet fantasies, my wild past serving food to celebrities, and a swoon-worthy moment with Robert Downey Jr.
