Nomoli figurines are among the earliest works of art from Sierra Leone. The figurines and similar stone sculptures are the only known remains of an empire that existed hundreds of years ago in what is now Sierra Leone and Liberia. Portuguese explorers first recorded the existence of the figurines in the fifteenth century. Nomoli figurines are often associated with the Mende people as they are often buried on Mende land. The Mende and Kissi people of Sierra Leone place these small statues near their homes and in fields of crops as a form of protection, in the belief that the Nomoli figurines will give them good health and good harvests. They also consult the statues as oracles. During the 20th century, Sierra Leonean immigrants brought their ancestors' Nomoli figurines with them to the United States as a way to preserve the spiritual powers of the past.

Dr. Anneloes Smitsman (Ph.D., LLM), is a futurist, evolutionary systems scientist and architect, coach, and global catalyst for thrivability. She is the founder and CEO of EARTHwise Centre. Cecelia Britton was reared as the eldest of eight children in a military family that moved around the world. So, she was exposed to multiple cultures and learned to adapt quickly. She began her spiritual search when still a teenager after reading books by Edgar Cayce, Ruth Montgomery, Arthur Ford, and James Monroe. Even as her dreams attempted to scare her away from seeking more spiritual knowledge she persevered by attending an A.R.E. retreat based on Edgar Cayce’s material as presented in the Search for God material which Cecelia then used as her foundation. Cecelia became a massage therapist during a time when being a massage therapist was considered disreputable. This was a time period before there were schools to teach one how to be a massage therapist. Instead, she apprenticed under a gifted teacher that worked in an MD’s clinic. Cecelia was a pioneer in Texas helping to educate the public, and have laws passed to legitimatize massage as therapeutic and non-sexual. Through those years, all manner of educational opportunities began to spring up all over the country and massage began the journey of being taken seriously as a member of alternative health practices. As Cecelia says, “The one thing that is not mentioned in massage schools is the fact that when one commits to a healing field, every unhealed aspect of the practitioner shows up on the table in the form of the practitioner’s clients.” For her bodywork intensified her interest in doing her own inner work. This has taken her into working with healers and their many modalities of healing, learning to understand and feel energy. She is now in her seventies and still works with clients to assist them to get in touch with themself so that body-mind-spirit connection is more available for them as well.

Tamara Michael is actively involved with the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and its students in Winston Salem, NC and other community organizations after retiring from a 30+ year career with the U.S. Postal Service. While in the Postal Service, she relocated often for opportunities and promotions with increasing responsibilities. She holds a BA from Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA. Tamara loves to explore the world, visiting 38% of the countries. She intends to continue her country-visited quest and considers traveling to North Korea and Iran as wonderful opportunities for adventure and experiencing unique cultures. Purity, a fifteen-year old blue-eyed cat, likes when Tamara stays home and curl up on her lap.

Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, David was adopted as an infant, by a first generation Mexican-American family. He enlisted into the U.S. Air Force after High School and spent his entire tour at Torrejon Air Base in Madrid Spain in Medical Administration.

After his military service, he began his career in Marketing and Advertising with BBDO (Batton,Barton,Durnstien&Osborne) Ad Agency in San Francisco, CA with full focus on the Apple Computer campaign for MacIntosh. The experience he gained, lead to his Professional careers in Radio and TV, Software Sales, Medical Marketing and Real Estate.

His Spiritual awakening began at 22, after a near-death experience from a severe motorcycle accident. Struggling to accept his religious upbringing as a fundamentalist Christian, versus, hiding his true personal spiritual experience and his love of the ancient metaphysical sciences, at 33, personal integrity was glaring. Being a preacher’s kid, choosing his own way vs. his family and tradition was the “road to hell” in their beliefs. He finally asked himself which one felt like hell. As he quotes “to thine own self, be true.”

At the end of his first year, emotionally and physically sober, reading and learning spiritual philosophies from Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, Richard Bach, James Redfield and Neale Donald Walsch, David was given a re-occurring dream that lead him on a spiritual journey of discovery. The illumination and connection with Spirit took place atop the Jemez Mountains of New Mexico outside Santa Fe. The experience with Spirit was extremely profound and life changing. David re-located to Albuquerque for a 10 month sabbatical of spiritual exploration. “When the student is ready. . . the teacher appears.”

Returning back to San Antonio with this new knowledge and spiritual understanding, he began his spiritual career working with others involved in a 12-step recovery program. A place where the sheer number of readings involved, kept him in the books studying happily.
