How did a bow shop that stood for little girls becoming everything they were created to be end up here?
This episode outlines in detail what happened that caused the cancelling of Wunderkin Co. online, and the aftermath. It explores how social media hype has a dark side, and how one thing can explode like the game of telephone overnight... and all the following devestation.
Perhaps I wasn't cut out to be the "face" of a brand... because what got us to 2.4 million also made us susceptible to getting cancelled.
This fourth installement of the series covers the period of time from early 2018 - until December, right before the cancellation of our brand. It covers three important things that happened that set the stage for second-guessing my intuition as a leader, and as a person in general, and how that served as the backdrop for what was to come. The company was still growing quickly, and we would finish the year doubling again, at 2.4 million in revenue.
On today's episode, I talk our honeymoon phase of the business, with a dream team of women. We launched the mystery bow of the month subscription, continued to collaborate with our favorite brands, did a pop-up shop with vintage bows in long-beach where women camped out from 4am, I got a divorce, and we had our first million dollar year. I hope you enjoy!
In this episode, you'll hear about the two year period from January 15 - February 2017: the early growth as Free Babes Handmade on instagram, culminating with our rebrand as Wunderkin Co. I'll describe how we started our blog, I'm like Brave, our fast growth on instagram, collaborating with fun shops, hiring our very first employees, and moving into our very first headquarters on Colfax. I hope you enjoy!
This is the first installment of the story, exploring the origin story of Free Babes Handmade! I also share a little about my childhood, the carpet cleaning business I owned with my ex-husband, and how I made the jump into bows.
Why am I recording this mini-series? I grew a handmade bow shop from my kitchen table to 2.4 million. Now? My business isn't much more than a few bins of bows and clips in my basement. Listen to hear the full story - from an online cancelling, to navigating the business through the COVID years, there have been SO many failures, but also some wins. It's finally time to get to share the story from my point of view.
