God is still the God of the backstage.
We’ve seen the backstage of many churches. Some are closets, others are huge areas that incorporate hospitality space, restrooms, and production storage.
Regardless of size or style, a tidy backstage area is essential.
We want to honor and give our best as a worship ministry, and ensuring the backstage area is all squared away is a big part of that.
Much like any other space in life, when the home or office is cluttered, it’s a sign of the mind of the person(s) who most often occupies the space.
Today's post includes four reasons to keep your backstage tidy.
Episode Overview
In this episode, Tim sits down with longtime worship leader Brad Vose of Heartland Church in Paducah, Kentucky. With years of experience leading people in worship, Brad shares insights on ministry longevity, the importance of building healthy teams, and what it takes to cultivate a culture of worship in the local church.
Brad’s Journey – how he got started in worship ministry and what has kept him faithful through the years.
Team Development – practical advice for equipping musicians, vocalists, and tech volunteers.
Heart for Worship – keeping the focus on Christ in a world full of distractions.
Ministry Challenges & Wins – lessons learned from both struggles and breakthroughs at Heartland.
Encouragement for Leaders – wisdom for worship leaders in small churches, big churches, and everywhere in between.
If you’re a worship leader, pastor, or church volunteer, this conversation will inspire you to think long-term, invest in people, and stay grounded in your calling. Brad’s perspective is both practical and deeply rooted in his love for the local church.
🎧 Tune in now to be encouraged and equipped in your ministry journey!

Part of effective ministry onstage is having good relationships offstage. The worship leaders and worship team should be connected to one another and to the congregation. If you’re in a mega church, you won’t know everyone, but you should be visible and approachable when you can. But, like many of our listeners, if you’re in a medium sized church or smaller, you have the opportunity to increase your effective on stage leadership with personal connections before and after worship.

This is an essential point for the worship leader and team members to remember. When we're leading, we must let our energy impact the congregation. This intentional and consistent effort will, over time, build a culture of alive and active worship among the congregation.
Show Notes:
The volunteers you assemble each week are also part of the church and are hungry for spiritual growth and discipleship. Of course, serving in the ministry regularly is an excellent part of the spiritual discipline of being a part of the body of Christ. But in addition to this act of service, let's not forget that we can incorporate spiritual elements into the rehearsal and gathering time with the worship team.
Sometimes, it can be difficult for the worship team to attend weekly rehearsals on the weekend and invest another evening in community or small groups. However, this is still a great approach, mainly if your worship team rotates members. Many churches require small group involvement for their leaders.

Tim Batts and Tim Price talk about values for your worship team on this episode of The Worship Leader Toolbox Podcast.
