Healing & Finding Hope After the Hard: Colette Nies Von Hanna, Socio-Ecological Feminist Theologian

Healing and Hope after Hard Journies with Colette Nies Von Hanna
Navigating Life’s Challenges: A Conversation with Colette Nies Von Hanna
Join me for a conversation with long-time family friend Colette Nies Von Hanna, who shares her journey and insights on being human. Colette, an organic gardener, socio-ecological feminist theologian, and energy researcher from New Braunfels, Texas, discusses the interconnection of ecological trauma and personal experiences. She reflects on her career shifts, including a political run, her academic pursuits, and community gardening efforts involving personal, professional, and spiritual growth. Colette shares her struggle with cancel culture, dealing with political and personal attacks, and the importance of self-awareness in activism and community involvement. She emphasizes the importance of resilience, authenticity, and vision despite facing extreme adversity and the challenges of social expectations.
Colette Nies Von Hanna, MSSW, MDIV
Activist, Socio-Ecological Feminist Theologian, Energy Researcher, Social Worker, Chaplain, 3rd Gen Organic Gardener, Aspiring Urban Farmer, Adoptive Mom, River-Goer, Rabble-Rouser, Bleeding Heart, who loves strong coffee and long naps.
The quote mentioned from my friend Justin’s LinkedIn page:
“To the people who are emotionally sensitive, who care so much about everything no matter how hard they try not to, who notice even the smallest things and take everything to the heart, the struggle is valid. I hope you get surrounded with people who are kind enough to understand you and even if you can’t expect everyone to adjust for you, I hope you get extra patience from this world.”

The Wild Edges of Being Human
Lessons Learned from Gabor Mate & Compassionate Inquiry

Welcome back! In today’s episode, I delve into lessons I’ve learned from one of my favorite teachers and approaches ~ Gabor Maté and Compassionate Inquiry.
I explore his method as a facilitator, the importance of gaining consent, his views on addiction as attempts to solve suffering, and authenticity versus attachment. Reflecting on his teachings, I discuss the impact of the “still-face experiment” and how connection to self is crucial in our healing journeys. I’ll also share insights on over-functioning as a coping mechanism and Gabor’s perspective on thriving in a sick world. Join me as we reconnect with ourselves and each other.

EASE From The Inside Out

It’s Road Riff time – Ease from the Inside Out.
I’ve had some really interesting, unusual resistance around content creation
and I didn’t have an “episode,” but I did have a drive into town
Stream of Consciousness with a Purpose and More at Ease
I want to be more at ease this year from the inside
It’s one of the core goals of how and who I want to be
This riff is inspired by Gabor Mate, Authenticity & Internal Family Systems
Love,
Allison

Procrastination or Parts: The Mind Fu&k of Starting Again
Yikes – Is it Procrastination or Parts- I’m jumping back into making podcast episodes for you!
I’m just going to allow myself to be imperfect in getting back into the routine
I love creating content for y’all
I’ve always loved creating content for y’all
and I’ve had some procrastination parts come up lately
I had all these plans and was taking no action – Highly unusual for me.
After a couple of weeks of this procrastination, I sat down to do my parts work practices as I normally do, and my shoulders were aching
and I decided to see if it was a part.
I slowed down and connected with myself and my body.
Hello, shoulders. I see you.
Hello, tightness, stiffness and pain. I see you
What is it you want me to know?

Enjoy this episode and a few of the deeper things I’ve learned from this thing called life over the last few months.
Love,
Allison

The Wild Edges of Being Human
Bug Soup & Updates
Hello Hello Humans!
I feel like a little kid getting back on a bicycle,
It’s been a couple of months since I podcasted.
Bug Soup is the time during chrysalis when the caterpillar disintegrates and devolves
and physically, materially turns into an gooey mess before it regenerates into the butterflies that bless us all.
It’s a metaphor for a stage of creation and a stage of life.
Who else is in and has been in Bug Soup?
I have been for quite some time.
It feels like whack a mole and it is just life.
I just want to acknowledge the humanity of seasons of Bug Soup no matter what causes them.
Love,
Allison

An ADHD Update
Hello Human Podcast Listeners!
Today I want to share a little behind the scenes ADHD update.
This is kind of personal.
It’s a behind the scenes episodes of being a small business owner,
being a coaching practice owner who is also navigating the Wild Edges of Being Human.
Many of you know the diagnosis of my ADHD over 18 months ago
and the acclimation to that both education, identity, meds, the support I need has been way different journey then I would have ever imagined.
The diagnosis label is one thing and the aftermath is interesting.
This morning I woke up feeling more ME then I have in a long time.
Love,
Allison

Why I’m No longer an Optimist And What I Am Instead

Hello Humans, another Road Riff Episode!
I use to consider myself an optimist.
I still tend to have some of these qualities.
I tend to see the best in people.
I’m able to see the best in people.
Sometimes to my detriment.
My identity for many many years was built around making other people feel good.
As I allow myself to be more human, as I drop the masks that I lived in to be save, I no longer claim to be an optimist.
Here’s why and what I claim to be instead
Love,
Allison

Emotions, ADHD & Motivation – A Convergence of Ideas

Emotions, ADHD & Motivation – A Convergence of Ideas
Hi Y’all!
I’ve been meaning to do an ADHD podcast for over a year and I saw this quote today by Tami Simon from Sounds True,
“Sometimes only the answer is found through living life.”
When I give myself the time and space to live life, the connections reveal themselves. And unmixing my internalized-for-51-years identity as it overlaps with ADHD has been a bit of a rumble for me lately.
While not solely about ADHD, I have had some recent insights that really landed as I continue on my learning and practicing of IFS, some  deeper study of the Enneagram (because those dang test never tell me the same number). This episode is a grand convergence of ideas connecting emotions, ADHD, and motivation–seen from a deeper than usual lens.
Love,
Allison

* The Enneagram Insights I’ve gained have been from listening to Suzanne Stabile’s podcast, The Enneagram Journey, and reading her book The Path Between Us.
* I’m also reading Sari Solden’s Book (the revised and expanded version) Women With Attention Deficit Disorder Embrace Your Differences and Transform Your Life

Episode 204 Heather Doyle Frasier: The Practice of Compassionate Writing
Writer, Coach, Renaissance Woman, Lover of Books
Publisher of Compassionate Mind Collaborative and a singer.
After having worked in the traditional publishing industry as a development editor,
Heather saw the humanity missing from the industry.
Meet my book coach, publisher, and friend.
Writing is such a vulnerable raw experience.
Even when you feel like you have this covered something is going to come up during the process that is difficult and challenging.
Merging her industry experience with coaching based in Compassionate Mind Training,
Heather creates a space and a loving mandate in her own publishing company.

The Wild Edges of Being Human
The Practice of Connection over Control

Episode 203 – The Practice of Connection over Control

Another road riff episode!
It’s Sunday morning, 8:23 am as I record this and I’m heading out to my therapeutic horseback riding lessons. After a difficult week, I’ve got some insights and lessons settling into my bones.  There might be a few tears!
Y’all know everything has an analogy, right?
It’s not even an analogy, life just repeats itself in so many patterns and I see and experience the patterns and love sharing these connections with you – so that we can all SELF-connect a bit more deeply in our lives. (PS…seeing and making connections is an ADHD thing).
Today’s episode topic is control or connection and the lessons the horses and life are teaching me.
The skills of connection over control and protection are new for many of us and they require compassionate practice.
Time on task gives us the experience of moving from controlling a situation to connecting and moving through it.
It takes us from trying to do something to becoming one with doing something.  I hope you enjoy the episode – from my tender heart to yours.
Love,
Allison Crow

Cindy Ingram: Reinventing Your Business

Hello Humans, today we are jamming with fellow reinventor Cindy Ingram.
Cindy has a book coming out later in the year and today we are going to talk a little bit more about reinvention.
Reinvention shows up on the outside but it’s usually because things happen on the inside.
Originally choosing her work based on how it felt,
Cindy shows a certain level of self trust to choose those kind of things when we might think we need to do something different.
“It has to feel right whatever I’m doing” – Cindy Ingram
And it takes a big leap to move careers with full on structural reinvention.

Allison

The Wild Edges of Being Human
It’s not about the Money or is it? A math message for heart-centered business owners.

Over the last 18 years, specifically coaching, I have worked with so many business owners.
Thousands and thousands of business owners everywhere from brand new business owners learning how to do things to business owners in achievement phase.
These days I tend to work with extremely experienced high revenue business owners.
I also work with caring people.
I work with people who are heart-centered, who have passion, & who care.
Most of my clients might say, or at some point say, it’s not about the money.
Listen at one point I said it’s not about the money and I’ll never forget my close friend that said, “Oh yes it is.”
Let me tell you why.

Reinvention: Tools for the Pivot & Success

Welcome!
Recently I made a giant decision in my business AND I’ve been known to make giant decisions.
The last time was in 2011 and the time before that was in 2009.
I do remember the last two times and I remember the emotional difficulty of the last two times.
No, I’m not freaking out and the reason I’m not freaking out,
I know how to manage my scared parts so much better than the last time I made a big decision like this,
I live below my means
AND
I can do this because I have the skills.

This is a podcast for business owners.
Welcome to those who aren’t business owners. If you listen, that’s fun!
I’m gonna be discussing what I’m noticing in the market, right!?
What I’m noticing in the economic climate, what I’m noticing in sales and what some of my research and peers are showing me around sales.
Then the second half is things you can do to shore up and be successful in a shifting economy and a shifting market.
