Art Periods and Movements? Should I care?
It seems like every time I pick up a book on art and artists, art periods and art movements are discussed. And though I understand both a way to categorize the art or artist, I don’t see a reason that it either helps in appreciating the work or understanding the artist. I feel like the art work itself tells me enough about the artist, and the years and where the artist lived tells me something about the culture at the time. So what is the importance of the art period and art movement in regards learning or understanding or in appreciation of art? Art history is divided into periods and movements. The difference between the two is time and intent. While art periods are usually based on historical eras, art movements are decided by artists as a collective. https://magazine.artland.com/art-movements-and-styles/ Top 25 Art movements and styles throughout history Thanks for joining us on this episode. In The Yard: Womenhouse and the birth of Feminist Art
In The Yard is how Stuart, the Gin Lady and I came up with the idea for the Whiskey and Art Podcast. I had asked Stuart a question. A simple one I thought, but two hours later I found that even the simplest art question leads to more questions and actual fun art discoveries. And each episode a comment Stuart makes draws out my curiosity or during my research something catches my eye. This episode about Womenhouse became so much more once I started. The first feminist art project in the western world. The links for my resources can be found in my blog at https://whiskeyandart.com. I hope you enjoy! Cheers! Please subscribe or follow. Who was the Mona Lisa?
Every art book that I’ve opened the Mona Lisa featured. So since she and I were sharing so much facetime, I thought, why not do an episode on her I can’t help but begin humming that popular tune Mona Lisa sang by the awesome Nat King Cole. “Are you warm, are you real, Mona Lisa, or just a cold and lonely, lovely work of art”. And that is what Stuart and I discuss on this episode. A bit of whiskey, a bit of history and a bit of fun. https://www.theartstory.org/artist/da-vinci-leonardo/ Mona Lisa- Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mona_Lisa.
