The Video Age: Episode 012 Dune(1984)
This week the sleeper must awaken, this is the fourth episode in our April Showers Give Me Dreams For Hours series. The movie we have is Dune, 1984, directed by David Lynch and we have a guest to talk about it with, my brother Josh. We unfortunately lost David Lynch this year, and covering his lowest rated movie of all time might seem disrespectful, but I assure you it isn't. This is not one of his best films, but it is the first one I saw. I find it beautiful for it's efforts to capture one of my favorite sweeping sci-fi epics in an ambitious constricted two hour format. The artist's vision being corrupted and compressed by the studio until it ultimately ends up falling short of what he wanted and what anyone really wanted. This film nearly broke him, but through this crucible he was able to bring us things like Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, and eventually Twin Peaks: The Return. Enjoy this movie, and do not fear not liking it because... I must not fear.Fear is the mind-killer.Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.I will face my fear.I will permit it to pass over me and through me.And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.   Get early access to upcoming episodes and extra episodes by joining our Patreon: www.thevideoage.com
