Happy Holidays! Well...not so much for Holly Woods, the main character in the new film Slay Ride, as she and her family are stalked by The Kris Kringle Killer. Slay Ride director Olivia Dunkley returns to The Admiral’s Club to talk to Paul about the film, accompanied by her co-star Mitch Shira. As with every indie film, there are stories from the trenches dealing with Utah weather, behind the scenes casting stories and what caused Dunkley’s return to the holiday genre (after directing A Holiday Boyfriend), but this time in the horror/slasher genre!

You’ve probably never seen a movie like Abruptio. It’s a tense, violent story of a man who realizes he has a device embedded in his neck and if he doesn’t perform certain deadly tasks, it’ll explode. Oh...and he’s a puppet. The whole cast is. Director Even Marlowe joins Movie Guy Paul Preston to talk up this very unique film’s long road to the screen, doing it all yourself and working with horror legends like Robert Englund and Sid Haig.

Documentaries are especially effective when they bring to light something you may not have otherwise known about. A lost bit of history in Canada is the segregated boarding schools for indigenous children and the abuse of these kids at the hands of the Catholic Church (happening for nearly a CENTURY). The film Sugarcane follows the investigation into this history and documents the resilience of the people who survived their time in the school and the aftermath. Co-directors Julian Brave Noisecat and Emily Kassie talk to Paul Preston about making the film, the emotions digging up the past have stirred up and more.

The Ghostbusters franchise continues in theaters now. We talked to someone who was there at the beginning. Frank Chindamo was a script P.A. on the 1984 original Ghostbusters and has a fun story to tell your host Paul Preston. Plus, he shares a classic “you were there for THAT?!” story about working on Saturday Night Live as well as working with Mother Theresa (seriously!).

There’s a great new short out there available NOW for free at the New Yorker’s website (www.newyorker.com) called ECO-HACK! and a more unique film about saving the world (or at least a cross-section of it) you might never see. Filmmakers Brett Marty and Josh Izenberg have captured the work of Tim Fields, taking unusual steps to save the desert tortoise. Friend of The Movie Guys Mark Elias returns to The Admiral’s Club with a new project - Boy Makes Girl, a new sci-fi drama/romance/comedy about a computer programmer who builds a female companion to cope with a challenging world. After his feature film, Surge, director Aneil Karia returned to a short film project and it seems to have paid off in terms of exposure and reward as The Long Goodbye, Karia’s collaboration with Riz Ahmed, is now nominated for Best Short Film at the 94th Academy Awards. Paul talked to Aneil about packing so much content into a short film, working with Riz, navigating the virtual festival circuit and much more!

The 1980 comedy 9 to 5 had enormous appeal with moviegoers, but also made a statement about women’s inequality in the workplace, a statement that’s needed reiterating ever since then. The film had an impact on twin brothers Gary and Larry Lane, who head the team behind Still Working 9 to 5, a new documentary about the making and legacy of the classic film. Paul talked to them about making the doc, their history with Dolly Parton, and their upcoming world premiere at SXSW.

The great 2016 documentary Strike a Pose, which explores the lives of the dancers from Madonna's Blond Ambition tour after the madness of the tour ended, is back in virtual cinemas! To celebrate Truth or Dare's 30th anniversary and the re-release of Strike a Pose, director Reijer Zwaan and dancer Kevin Stea spilled their own truths on Paul Preston and guest co-host Mary Gent about bringing the dancers and gay icons back together and the emotion that came with it.
