Welcome to "The Third Mind" - A podcast that examines the world of supervision in transactional analysis psychotherapy. I am Aruna Gopakumar, a provisional Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst. In each episode, we present a supervision session – a dialogue between a therapist and supervisor where the therapist reflects on their lived experience with a client. Therapists talk about their questions, stuckness, mistakes and ethical dilemmas and think together with me about them. Each session is followed by a discussion with other psychotherapy trainees, to apply theory to practice.

Episode 4 - When the client shares something randomly

Often a client may share something in passing that creates some emotions in you. You wonder how what the client has shared is significant for your work. How do you bring it up with your client? What is your remit as a therapist? Apart from dealing with these questions, this episode highlights inner conflicts that can be created for therapists when their values differ from those of their clients, and what they can do about it
