The Storming Journey
Out of the Best Books
3 episodes
Inspired by other sacred reading podcasts and Casper ter Kuile’s The Power of Ritual, The Storming Journey treats the books of The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson as sacred texts. Additionally, we are interested in examining this series through a Mormon lens. Brandon Sanderson is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; we, the hosts, have also been shaped by the LDS Church in various ways. Our goal for this podcast is to help people to connect with The Stormlight Archive on a spiritual level and develop methods of engaging with text from a spiritual perspective.

The Storming Journey
S1E1 - Dispensations: Kalak’s Kinship with History (WOK, Prelude)

Covers the Prelude of The Way of Kings from The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. We discuss the Prelude through the theme of "Dispensations," examining how we view history and dispensational framing in Mormon thought versus the Vorin ardentia. We also discuss the weight of history and compare the Heralds to the Three Nephites of Mormon folklore. Adam presents a new sacred reading method — kinmaking — and we examine Kalak's connections (or lack thereof) with those around him.

For more on the Three Nephites, see The Three Nephites: Saints, Service and Supernatural Legend.
