When did being a Christian become synonymous with being political? What happened, and is it even Biblical? Was Jesus idea for the church to wrap itself in a flag?
Editor's note: apologies for the audio quality, as we are going through a production transition.

Is Satan what we imagined him to be? Is he the little red guy on your shoulder telling you to have one more bag of chips? In this episode, Nathan and Jeff take some time to take a lighthearted look at a very dark subject and trying to address the question "who or what is Satan, and what do we actually know?" This episode is not intended to be a definitive expose on the subject, but should certainly get the wheels turning on what we know about the guy downstairs.
Spoiler alert... it's less than you think.

What does it mean that we are "made in the image of God?"
In a deeper textual study combined with their usual approachable conversation, the Goats take a look at what it means to be made in God's image and how does this jive with the idea that we are woeful wormy sinners that took near all of God's power to save?
How does being made in God's image intersect with the idea of total depravity? Grab a Bible and join the journey.

In this "stories" episode, Nicole joins us to share a very intimate look at her own personal journey of deconstruction in adulthood. We take a deep look at the personal side of deconstruction, how it affects relationships, and how to process so many difficult questions as a church and community leader.
Nicole is a lifelong active member in her faith community and influential leader in the early childhood sphere with her Christian family. She's an all-around exceptional human being that dared asked some questions of her God. If you've ever felt a calling to reconcile life with faith, this is definitely an episode for you.

First a few updates!
Our website is finally up and running, as is our Medium, Facebook Goup, and Patreon. Links are below the show notes.
In this first of our "What Is..." series, Amy Fritz of Untangled Faith podcast Took the time to sit down with us for a entertaining but frank conversation about deconstruction and its current influence in the church.
If you love Jesus but have ever questioned why church people do the things they do, often hurting others along the way, this may be the episode for you. Nathan, Jeff, and Amy explore trauma, cognitive dissonance, loving Jesus with both eyes open in your local church, and more in this episode of the Spotted Goats Podcast.

What is the Bible? How is it to be read? How do we approach such a world-impacting piece of literature in a responsible way, and in a way that honors its original intent? What burden do believers bear when interpreting scripture?
What methodologies should be used when interpreting something intended for people so long ago in a culture completely different than that of western modern culture?
Is the Bible all we need? Is it really as simple as "God said it, I believe it, that settles it?" What is the place of scholarship inside the community of believers?
All this and more in our newest episode.

What do we know about God and how do we know him?
....and it turned into a geometry lesson.
How do we experience God?
How do we experience the Spirit?
How do we experience the Son?
Where do we encounter the Divine in the church/institutions today?
How do we evaluate churches?
Are our expectations realistic, and how do we deal with them?

Editor's note - at one point in this episode we mistakenly say Millennials are children of Generation X... we meant Boomers. It was late. We needed coffee. God is good.
Show notes:
Generation X-odus - no, this is not a Boomer bash
1.Baby Boomers and the gap between them and the rest of us
They were the children of legends, ie the “greatest generation”
They were the children of the first innovation wave… in home tech, etc
Views on society: Things are made for consumption and their use. Things should be made to make life easy.
Views on authority: it comes from experience. Expertise and recognition are earned and authority is near absolute if earned. They were raised to be institutional and optimistic for the future.
2.Generation X - the first kids of Boomers.
“Latchkey kids” - created an inner sense of independence and cynicism
Society - keep a close, tight circle. Self-preservation
Views on authority - skeptical. Witnesses of many scandals of authority in politics and church and has led to their being the first generation to start departing from organized religion.
Looking for open conversation and willingness to be self-critical
3.Millenials - the second kids of Boomers. The last to adapt to the internet
Society: The first social media generation. Wider sense of consciousness and connectivity
Views on authority - less skeptical of authority than X, but they want to know the “why”... because of this they can be viewed as contrarian.
They struggled with the “because I said so” approach to much of church. If the church couldn’t give reasoning that made sense, then they smelled lack of authenticity and are leaving in numbers even greater that Gen Xers.
Views on authority: they value experience, but demand mutual respect.
They are the most health conscious generation to date and aspire to be “aware” of societal issues and topics.
The Church of the 80s and 90s was trained to “win” people... and Generation X/ Millennials led the walkout. We have to find a better way...BE better.
Where is the church right now in the realm of relevance related to society and the basic needs of its members? Have Christians already lost the information age? Is Deconstruction the death of Christianity? The Goats tackle this and much more in this episode.
