The Sleepwalker

This mid-rave feeling of being utterly present, devoid of any sense of time, place, or ego, is difficult to capture in a strictly representational art form. Documenting the rave is a tricky process. Raves are seen as one of the few places left untouched by big corporations, that often don't want to be named or publicized. Here, I give a voice to those who shape and sustain this scene, to delve deeper into the Montreal rave culture and unpack the complex dynamics of power, along with issues of identity, gender, race, and ethics that riddle a community that comes to life at dusk. Ep.8 - Raving in the 80s - In Pursuit of repetitive Beats

"It's 1989, and rave culture is at its peak in England. Illegal raves are organized all over the country, in abandoned warehouses and other isolated locations. A cat-and-mouse game is played between the organizers and the police: but once a rave has started, the police have no way of stopping it."

In Pursuit of Repetitive Beats transports you to the scene of a typical rave, accompanied by the sounds of old-school Acid House.

A talk with Award-winning VR creator, visual artist, and co-founder of @eastcityfilms, Darren Emerson.

An episode in collaboration with the PHI center.
