Diana Matheson on Olympic Moments, Leadership & Growing Canadian Women’s Football

Diana Matheson is a two-time Olympic bronze medalist who was a member of Canada’s Women’s National Soccer Team from 2003-2021. During her career Diana represented Canada over 200 times, played in four FIFA World Cups and three Olympic Games, and earned a bronze medal in both London 2012 and Rio 2016. Diana is perhaps best known during her soccer career for scoring the game-winning goal in the bronze medal against France in the London Olympic Games in 2012. During her time as an athlete, Diana co-founded the Player’s Association for Canada’s Women’s National Soccer team.Following her playing career Diana earned an EMBA from the Smith School of Business and a UEFA Master for International Players from the Université de Limoges. Matheson co-founded Project 8 Sports in 2022 with the mandate to spearhead the development of women’s professional soccer in Canada. From Lionesses Keeper to Leader: Carly Telford’s Journey

Carly Telford is a retired English footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Born on July 7, 1987, in County Durham, England, she had a distinguished 20-year career in women's football.

She began her professional journey at Sunderland in 2002, before moving to Leeds Carnegie in 2007. She joined Chelsea in 2010, where she made 23 appearances. A notable moment during her time at Chelsea was captaining the team in the 2012 FA Cup final against Birmingham City, which ended in a penalty shootout loss. After a brief spell, she returned to Chelsea in 2017, contributing to the team's success with three Women's Super League titles, two FA Cups, two League Cups, a Spring Series title, and a Community Shield. In 2022, she transferred to San Diego Wave FC in the United States, making four appearances before retiring in 2023.

Telford earned 27 caps for the England national team between 2007 and 2021. She was part of the squads for the 2007 and 2015 FIFA Women's World Cups and the 2017 UEFA Women's Euro. Her first major tournament appearance came at the 2019 World Cup. Additionally, she represented Team GB at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in 2021, stepping in as a replacement for the injured Karen Bardsley.

Since retiring from professional football in 2023, Carly Telford has transitioned into a significant off-field role at Chelsea FC. She currently serves as the club’s Brand and Partnerships Player Manager, a position she began in July 2023. In this capacity, Telford collaborates closely with Chelsea’s commercial partners to enhance the club’s brand presence and foster new partnerships .

Despite their chaotic start, Beatriz and her team have built out one of the strongest leagues in the world. Liga F boasts FC Barcelona Femeni, the current and previous Ballon d’Or Féminin winners (Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas) and many of the players from Spain’s World Cup winning squad.

Bianca Rech: From Defender to Director – Shaping Women’s Football at Bayern

Bianca Rech, who's been known to all as "Jay" since her playing days, returned to Bayern in September 2016. She'd previously worked as team manager at 1. FC Köln, where the midfielder ended her playing career. After three years in team management at the Munich club, the sports economics graduate was promoted to the position of sporting director in 2019. She was appointed head of section on 1 April 2023. She continued to work alongside Danner for the first three months before assuming sole responsibility on 1 July. Since she's been part of the management team, FCB Women have won the Women's Bundesliga title three times and have always finished in the top two, enabling them to take part in the Champions League every year. The team have also reached the final of the DFB Cup twice. As a player, "Jay" Rech made 95 competitive appearances for Bayern from 2006 to 2010, scoring 12 goals in the process. The 20-time Germany international won three league titles with 1. FFC Frankfurt as well as winning the UEFA Women's Cup, the forerunner of today's Champions League. She also played for SC 07 Bad Neuenahr and Swedish top-flight club Sunnanå SK.
