Recorded live at The Common on December 22, 2022. This set nearly didn't happen at all. My first flight was cancelled due to weather and only thanks to some helpful folks on a different airline did I make it on time. It ended up being one of my favourite sets of the year. For this month's Parkcast we have an emotional but groovy mix from https://soundcloud.com/oldcitysounds. These gents have put together such a good collection of tunes that capture both the longing for familiar times while also the need to look a little deeper. I really enjoyed it, and I hope you do to. It was particularly difficult to compose because we could not find the usual direction or flow that we normally fall into. The expression of a set is the reflection of its bearer and when we try to sit and reflect on the mysteries and madness of this year, we are flooded with many different feelings and emotions. Digging deep into our introspective thoughts - understanding and appreciating what there is to be grateful for, reminiscing on what used to be and shaping what is yet to come - we decided that in a world where there are many things that still do not make sense, we should tell the story that captures the various moods and feels of our journey thus far, regardless of its nonsensical irregularities - or more simply put “nothing makes sense, so maybe this doesn’t have to make sense either”. This approach set our minds free to just have fun and play songs that we have loved during this time, showcasing a storyline that deeply resonates with us. This story, made for our friend Dunmore Park, captures our understanding of life’s circular cadence; from the excitement of a new beginning, to the regularity of something familiar, the inevitable ache of its passing and the eventual hope for something new once again. They each bringing a unique style to the turntables and their live sets are made up of various styles of feel good house and disco bangers that come together to create a sound they call ‘Space Disco.’ 2019 has been their breakthrough year and after winning the Kootenay Music Awards ‘Artist Of The Year’ they shared their sound to the largest crowd they have ever played for at The Living Room Stage at Shambhala. The future looks bright for these boys, and they are ready to run with it.

I am so happy to present Nathan Hall as my latest guest for the Parkcast! As one of the minds behind Costa Rica's excellent Random Collective and a excellent DJ and producer in his own right, Nathan has released on some of my favourite labels like CasaCaos, Cosmic Awakenings, and Shango Records. Today he's delivered a great live mix taken from a recent show in Montreal at O.Noir. Nathan Hall is a genre-melting producer and selector of music that is quite hard to define. Where the edges dissolve and mix to create something that can only be surmised as eclectic. His influences stem from his travels and immersions into different cultures and their histories. He is known for being unafraid to experiment, to swerve and pivot between styles and to challenge his listeners to expand their musical horizons. Slow Techno/House, Tribal, Multicultural, Electronica/Ambient, Downtempo & more. With a long history as a DJ (15+ years) and education as an audio engineer. He credits his relatively recent move to Squamish to have brought him to a mental space to create the music he would eventually play out at his shows. In a short time he has released on labels all over the world including Akumandra, Casa Caos, Cosmic Awakenings, Shango Records and more... Alongside his original productions, Nathan has become sought after for his remixing and mixtape/podcasts which has lead to several international gigs in Costa Rica, Colombia, and most recently his Europe Tour in October of 2018 which saw him headline The Hive, in Zurich and Slowmotor in Berlin. In addition, Nathan is also part of Random Collective Records, in an A&R and Engineering role. It is a rapidly growing digital label releasing some of the finest artists, known and unknown in the slower tempo music scene. He also hosts a monthly music night called Refuge in Vancouver, focusing on downtempo and multicultural, more mindful dance music.
