After failing to all be in the same room together for the better part of a year, Jed, Josip, and Quintin finally return for Episode Ten of the OnlyBands Podcast. This time, we have rising Brisbane rockers Full Flower Moon Band in our new studio, which bears a suspicious resemblance to the kitchen and living room of the average suburban house. Our guests peeled back the petals of the Megaflower and gave us a deep dive into the writing and recording of their first ARIA charting album. We also got some insight into their first overseas tour before going back in time to their early days and learning how they eventually came to be in full bloom. Befitting the heavy influence of cinema on Full Flower’s music, we also finally got a proper camera AND a green screen. It’s practically a Hollywood production!
After our longest hiatus yet, OnlyBands returns with our ninth episode featuring notoriously hard-partying pub punks Dad Fight. After an entire year of saving up all our spare change, we’ve finally scraped the money together to buy a camera so our audience can watch all the degeneracy unfold on video. Dad Fight talk about playing an entire set yet having absolutely no memory of it, being the entertainment for a B and S Ball, studying nihilism and absurdism, and smacking Quintin in the nuts and the face during a show. Quintin also downs an entire bottle of wine and spends the latter half of the podcast vomiting into the toilet, fun times!
On the eighth episode of Australia’s least consistently released podcast, we have Brisbane rock n rollers Roadhouse!
Having recently celebrated five years since the release of their debut single Doghouse, frontman Chris and their bassist Dan swing by the studio to take us on a trip down memory lane and look back on over half a decade as a band.
In-between a few choice beers from Seeker Brewing, they talk about what it was like to re-record Doghouse for its fifth anniversary and play their entire catalog of songs live at their residency shows. They also regale us with stories of past gigs such as the time Chris accidentally impersonated Freddie Mercury on stage, they wax lyrical about balancing their love for old school rock n’ roll with more modern influences and reveal their love for Frank Sinatra, Kiss, Parkway Drive, and all things wrestling!
Australia’s least consistently released podcast emerges from the wilderness once again with another episode. Joining us for OnlyBands Episode 7 are Gold Cost power trio Verum. Verum tell us about how small-town boredom influenced their music and made them the band they are today, their view of the songwriting process as a form of healing, as well as multiple stories about drinking underage and getting shitfaced off of craft beer. Speaking of craft beer, Moondog Brewing help us take the beer tasting segment to strange new places through the provision of a dessert flavored beer. But is it any good? You’ll just have to start listening to find out.
It’s been a while between drinks once again but we’re back for OnlyBands Episode 6, Return of The Jedi! This one was recorded a while ago, so some of the things we talk about in hindsight are tragically funny. Regrettably we never will get another Violent Death Rats tour featuring Gooch Palms despite talking about it so enthusiastically.
This time around we have Simon (DZ Deathrays, Velociraptor, Total Pace) and his good mate Jai (Haters). Our guests talk about touring with the Wiggles, go-to hangover cures, accidentally having to play with the world’s most objectionable band, doing the truffle shuffle in Amsterdam, impending fatherhood, and embarrassing yourself in front of Frehnzal Rhomb by playing the wrong song. In-between all of that, we pit Simon and Jai against each other in our totally original game of categories as well as testing the limits of their craft beer consumption courtesy of Jed, his expanding beer belly, and Newstead Brewery.
After getting lost in the wilderness for a couple of months, we’re finally back and (potentially) better than ever! For OnlyBands Episode 5, we’re trying something a bit different and have our good mates Zac and Archie with us along for the ride. Archie has leant his shredding skills to bands such as Zombie Creek and Bad Neighbour over the years, while Zac used to front Brisbane’s notoriously hard-touring and hard-partying rock n’ rollers Whisky Grinn. Now they’ve joined forces for their new project Wasted Vacation! We pit Zac and Archie against each other in some newly devised music trivia games that we totally didn’t steal off network television and reminisce about the good old days over a few beers.
On the fourth episode of the OnlyBands Podcast we’re joined by an old mate and a new one, Taylor and Zoe from Bad Neighbour.
Bad Neighbour talk about their first gig turning into a backyard wrestling match, What inspired Taylor to started wearing crop-tops on stage, skipping shifts during Splendour In The Grass to go off and party, and the possibility of playing before the king Shannon Noll some time this year.
They also give us some insight into their songwriting process, where they want to go with their sound, and a few sneaky tidbits about their next EP!
