La boix are back from their CRJ-cation to talk Now! 23! We're swinging with some heavy hitters on this one, but most of them are strikeouts. Welcome back Timbaland after a massive hiatus, and he's bringing with him Nelly Furtado and JT. Does his extremely 2006 sound hold up? What is Fergie's London Bridge and why is it going down? Sorry for the slight delay in kicking off this month's finale to The E•MO•TION Minute 2019; Chris moved into a new place and is meticulously setting up his sound system to get the exact correct amount of CRJ Vibes because, for this episode, we had to listen to "Tug of War," the pretty awful title track off of her debut album. What happens when an artist who hasn't yet found her sound drifts out of her vocal range in the chorus that follows lyrics that fail in their attempt to be clever? It's a bad song, folks, but it's a song that hints at the pop music Charizard she would eventually evolve into. It's not pop, it's not lattegaze, so who is this song even for? Also on this episode, we learn that Nico is not great with movies, Chris is not great at telling generic white dudes apart, and somehow the most contentious band to grace Now and Again thus far is The All-American Rejects. Come for the psychoanalysis of John Mayer, stay for the creation of the Rachel Dratch Fan Club. Plus: a brief history of the WOO HOO in pop music.

Now! 22 takes us to July 2006 and, for once, the front half is carrying the weight of the back half, even though it's mostly forgettable songs by artists you don't really love (but remember a bit). Nico and Chrix talk working retail and being forced to hear trash music, the first great Rhianna song, a detour to praise the career of Weird Al, and the pros and cons of autotune (the only way we got our news in 2009). Also, do the boys love or hate T-Pain? Nobody can figure it out!

Nico and Chris detour from the back end of Now's 21st birthday drunk brunch to talk about the customization benefits of MP3 and the balls to the wall attitude of the Shrek 2 soundtrack. When they do get back to Now! 21, it's Civil War as the boys argue over the low bar state of late era pop punk and a polarizing Gorillaz song before coming back together to fight a greater foe: racist country music.

Now! turns 21 and the boys go out to brunch to chat 2006. Nico monologues on the biggest moment in Mariah's career while Chris speaks fondly of the greatest Oscar winners in history. We explore the Muppet-like world of Fergie, the weird numerology that ties together pieces of shit, and give the guy from the Kim Kardashian sex tape as much time as he deserves.

Nico and Chris are back to talk about the good stuff from 2018! First, though, they bookend the show with their future on The CageClub Network: new shows and a big programming announcement for the spring! Meanwhile, apparently some music happened. Nico is mostly blase as Chris rolls through his difficult to make Favorite 20 albums of the year. The boys talk about supergroups, the year of the short album, and Kanye's trilogy. Even if the albums were a stretch, there's more than enough to cobble together the NaA 2018 Mixtape, which you can check out on Spotify! P.S.: Chris sincerely apologizes for not knowing the difference between Australia and New Zealand.

It's the Now and Again Best of 2018 and, in real 2018 fashion, we're starting with the disappointments: the stuff that fell far short of last year's lofty expectations. First up: the on-the-bubble albums that slipped into the honorable mentions. We talk Mariah, Robyn, Pale Waves, CRJ, being disgusting hipsters who collect records, tattooed faces, Hootie and the Blowfish, Friends, Kimbra, Joyce Manor, The Midnight, Weezer, Dashboard Confessional, tumblr porn, what is this list, where am I, why do I smell toast?

Chris had to miss an episode so Nico is running the show. Poor show. Poor, poor show. Nico decided to take co-hosts Kevo (X Is For Podcast, mcu.html) and Jonah (X Is For Podcast) down the rabbit hole and into the past as they take a time adventure and travel from 1997 to 2017 to listen to the Billboard #1 song from each year on December 15th! Inexplicably, nearly every artist appearing on this list ties directly into the Now and Again stable of champion artists.
