“This isn’t my last word with Cocodona. I’m turning this into unfinished business.”

In this episode, Troy Meadows talks with Lindsey Dwyer—a full-time middle school PE teacher and elite ultra-runner who’s quietly been stacking some seriously impressive performances on the trails.

Lindsey recently finished second at the 2025 Cocodona 250, clocking a time of 79 hours and 35 minutes while battling through a respiratory issue that made breathing, let alone running, feel nearly impossible.

Troy and Lindsey dive into how she managed to keep pushing through the low moments of that race, how she juggles 100-mile training weeks with her responsibilities in the classroom, and why she’s heading back to UTMB with a big goal and even bigger fire.

They talk about the importance of community, mental grit, and showing up fully in both running and life—even when things aren’t going your way. From major podiums like Brazos Bend and Miwok to the day-in, day-out grind of teaching and training, Lindsey brings a grounded, inspiring energy to everything she does.

Whether you’re chasing your first ultra or eyeing 200+ milers, this conversation reminds us what’s possible when passion meets perseverance.

Motivational Takeaways

  • Embracing adversity: Lindsey talks about pushing through pain and illness during Cocodona, finding grit when moments get dark.

  • Smart training: balancing high mileage with recovery, especially juggling teaching responsibilities.

  • Big‑picture mindset: viewing setback as setup — she’s targeting UTMB this year and looking to return to Cocodona stronger than ever.

“Aren’t you glad we don’t have to run this thing anymore?” – Tim

The MidPacker Pod dives deep into the legend of Western States with two athletes who helped write it. Co-host MVD sits down with five-time champion Tim Twietmeyer—the only human with 25 sub-24-hour buckles—and Andy Jones-Wilkins, owner of ten straight silver buckles and seven top-ten finishes.

Together they relive:

  • 1995’s “Fire & Ice” showdown: waist-deep snow, 105 °F canyons, and a nail-biter win over Ann Trason and the Tarahumara runnerstherunnerstrip.comirunfar.com

  • 2005: The year AJW almost won WSER

  • 2006: Tim's Last Running and the passing of the torch to the next Generation

  • The infamous Ice Cream Sandwich Run, Tim’s 52-mile training rite of passage where “if you puke, the workout doesn’t count.”ajwsblog.blogspot.com

  • How sponsorships—from Mont-Tréal to Patagonia—sparked the sport’s leap from “duct-taped bottles” to dialed pro teams

“Endurance running taught me that suffering can be healing.”

On this episode of the MidPacker Pod, host Troy Meadows sits down with someone whose name you might recognize from the tech world—but whose story on the trails is just as compelling. Randi Zuckerberg joins Troy to talk about grit, glitter, and the deeply personal journey that’s taken her from postpartum struggles to finishing Cocodona 250.

This isn’t just a tale of logging miles—it’s about reclaiming identity, building resilience, and weaving together family, career, and ultrarunning in the most authentic way.

“This is mine—my grit, my journey,” she told herself. From there, running became more than just fitness—it became therapy, transformation, and a bold new identity.

Randi has built her ultrarunning life around presence, creativity, and deep connection.

  • She trains early—usually 4 to 7 a.m.—before her family wakes.

  • Her kids are part of the experience, running their own races at events.

  • Her husband is training for an Ironman.

  • Her 5-year-old daughter completed a 1K trail race.

  • She embraces what she calls a “well-lopsided” balance—going all-in on what matters most in each moment.

Always a builder at heart, Randi’s bringing her entrepreneurial energy into the endurance world:

  • She’s an angel investor and advisor in several trail and ultra-related startups.

  • Current investments include:

    • Janji - (friend of the pod)

    • Neuron (AI-powered pacing app)

    • RUNNA (training and coaching platform)

Through these projects, she’s helping create tools and communities that support and elevate everyday runners—just like us.

“I think surfing was my gateway drug into trail running.”

Mike Ambrose may have stumbled into trail running by accident—thanks to a Patagonia wetsuit search gone sideways—but his impact on the sport has been anything but unintentional. In this episode, Troy sits down with Mike to explore his journey from outdoor store manager to shaping the direction of powerhouse brands like Salomon, Black Diamond, NNormal, and now, Naak.

They dive deep into:

  • Mike’s unconventional entry into the sport and industry

  • How managing a shop in Breck led to global product roles at Salomon

  • Mentoring athletes like Courtney Dauwalter, Addie Bracey, and Corrine Malcolm early in their careers

  • Building athlete teams, launching shoes like the Ultra Glide, and innovating alongside Killian Jornet at NNormal

  • Transitioning from footwear to fueling as he now leads Naak’s U.S. business

  • The art (and challenge) of balancing high-stakes work with big trail goals—including pacing Courtney at Hardrock and Cocodona

This episode is a masterclass in following passion, giving back, and navigating career pivots while staying true to the soul of trail running. Whether you're dreaming of working in the industry or just trying to fit your miles in before the morning meeting, Mike’s story is one you'll want to hear.

"Trusting the taper is as much a mental challenge as it is physical." – Corinne

"Every race teaches you something new, no matter how many you've done." – Matt

"Balancing life and training is an art form we're all trying to master." – Troy

In this episode of Trailing Indicators, host Troy Meadows reconnects with regular guests Corinne Shalvoy and Matt Van Dalsem to discuss their recent racing experiences, upcoming goals and as always a handful of ultra specific topics.

    Episode Highlights:

Matt recaps his back-to-back race weekend spectating the 50K and running 28K at the Big Alta in Marin, sharing how knowing the course gave him a midpack edge—even if his fueling plan was more of a “grab what’s at the aid station” vibe. He also drops the news that his next A-race is the Rodeo Valley 8K—which he’ll be running with his 10-year-old son!

Corinne is just days away from toeing the line at the Gorge Waterfalls 100K and shares how she's navigating the taper blues while juggling coaching duties for two athletes who will also be racing.

The trio dives into volume ramp-ups for summer A-goals, how to adapt strength training during big mileage weeks, and why sometimes not training is the best move after getting sick.

They round things out with banter about Cocodona 250 commentary, Randy Zuckerberg’s growing presence in the ultra scene, and dream-casting “Unbreakable 2.”

    Discussion Topics:

    • How to come back to training after being sick

    • Ramping up training for your Ultra A goals.

    • Adapting strength training routines as run training ramps up.

"Running became my therapy, my declaration that I was still here and still fighting."

In this episode, Troy chats with Josh Ross—a carpenter, hunter, writer, and ultra-runner who lives life with intention and grit.

Josh started running in 2019 with a half-mile jog and hasn't looked back. After growing up in the Adirondacks and reconnecting with nature in Wyoming, running became both a passion and a path to healing—especially after a leukemia diagnosis in 2020.

Instead of slowing down, Josh committed to a 103-day running streak through treatment and personal upheaval. He later tackled his first ultra, a 55K with nearly 10,000 feet of gain—winning his age group and finding community on the trail.

Outside of running, Josh writes the Front Porch Journal on Substack, where he shares reflections on simplicity, resilience, and the pursuit of a meaningful life. His writing has also appeared in Orion Magazine and High Country News.

This is a story of movement, mindset, and making peace with the messiness of life.

    Motivational Takeaways:

    • Embrace Challenges: Josh's journey illustrates the power of confronting obstacles head-on and using them as catalysts for growth.

    • Find Balance: Navigating the demands of work, health, and personal passions requires intentionality and self-awareness.

    • Value Community: Sharing experiences through writing and conversation fosters connection and mutual support.

"Women over 40 need to train smarter, not harder. It’s about understanding our bodies and adapting, not just grinding through the same training we did in our 20s."

Lauren Beihoffer’s journey is all about reinvention, adventure, and pushing limits. A former scientist turned ultra-runner and coach, Lauren found trail running after a major life shift—one that took her from the world of academia to endurance sports. She’s since built a life centered around movement, resilience, and exploration.

    In This Episode:

    • From Science to Trails – Lauren shares how she left behind a career in research and academia, found running, and ultimately fell in love with the ultra-distance.

    • Postpartum Running & Recovery – A deep dive into Lauren’s personal experience navigating postpartum depression, rebuilding strength, and finding empowerment through trail running.

    • Ultra-Endurance & Adventure Racing – Beyond traditional trail running, Lauren has taken on adventure races, mountaineering, and FKTs (Fastest Known Times). She shares what drives her to explore different endurance challenges.

    • Training & Coaching for Women Over 40 – Lauren specializes in working with female athletes navigating the unique challenges of aging, hormonal shifts, and maintaining peak performance.

    • East Coast Running Tours – Lauren is the mastermind behind incredible running retreats, blending community, skill-building, and outdoor adventure.
