I love that Jim’s input included his viewpoints on some of the topics from the Premiere episode with Joie and his assessment on several topics lead to discussions around how interactions on social media are changing, how standing out is harder, and how each platform has their own agendas, and much more. Jim shared how he made his LinkedIn profile image interactive using a new App, called Relatable, that allows him to bring the conversation directly to him with a customized engagement strategy. The importance of the two-way and personalized conversation he’s able to gain is invaluable and gives you a leg-up for building “community.” We talked a little about how businesses are building communities around their brands with social media and embracing UGC, or user-generated content, as an integral part of their marketing strategy. But still, Jim explains how one-to-one engagements directly with people are the most experiential way to interact and engage human-to-human to create a strong connection with every touchpoint. Notably, people now expect to interact with companies and are rather impatient to get responses from any social interactions. This on-the-spot customer care through careful social listening and problem-solving reinforce Brooke Sellas’s thinking… some of these concepts are discussed in previous episodes… Jim agreed that platforms are making it harder to get noticed, and demand challenges for proper content creation, per channel or platform. We can’t just go with standard repurposing across platforms anymore, instead, we need to consider platform-specific content, audience needs, desires, HABITS, and mixed content types, all delivered with intentional and meaningful direction and in tandem with business goals. When I'm creating anything or writing to connect with people, I keep this framework— the Octalysis Principle— in mind. Especially if you want a person to take an action after experiencing your content, this theory will serve you well, so it's worth learning a little bit about. I'm excited to introduce you to Yu-kia Chou's Octalysis Framework so you begin to think about how to design things to serve a higher intent... that of the human consuming it. Applying gamification and behavioral design techniques to craft experiences that delight humans applies to real-world applications for products, services, educational/instructional design, corporate training/onboarding, and more. "Gamification is the craft of deriving all the fun and engaging elements found in games and applying them to real-world or productive activities." In this video, I intro and briefly explain the 8 core drives that motivate humans to take action as outlined in Yu-kai's formula. They represent both intrinsic and extrinsic motivators in people, and I mention there is also a black hat vs. white hat component to it as well. Grab Ross' trilogy: https://amzn.to/3IVERDi  I’m sticking with this thought; technology is about connecting with humans, making things easier for people through automated systems and processes, and speeding up things to save the most precious of all resources— your time. But, just like in previous years, I still say the emphasis is on PEOPLE. It’s always about people for the win, and ultimately, it’s people we do business with, collaborate and exchange ideas with, and generally WANT to interact with as social beings. Now, to go a little more digital on you. I don’t think anyone can predict what the heck is going to happen over the next year or years. I don’t think any of us can, truthfully. Not at this never-happened-before pace. The speed of change with the rapid rise of AI and other generative technologies is flying forward so lightning fast that even their makers' heads are spinning, so who am I to guess or pretend to have insight as to where all of this may be heading? But what I do know is that digital creators and business owners who embrace, enhance, and develop along with the features and agility of the tech coming at us full throttle are the ones who will stay relevant and end up at the forefront in the digital revolution. I also know these new technologies are fun and exciting and offer much to learn and do, allowing you to create in ways never before possible! I urge you to experiment with and embrace an agile business culture, giving you potential beyond imagination, thrilling creative possibilities, and much more, rather than resisting what is already happening with or without you. These changes are poignant to every business, whether digital-first in nature or not. I think we are in for extraordinary times, new frontiers in business and marketing, and impactful changes to our society as a whole as Augmented Reality develops before our eyes, rather than in a future-world dystopia setting. Technology, good or bad, will continue to be a stronger and more influential force with who we are, integrating more and more ubiquitously into our everyday lives and well beyond ramifications to just businesses and industries. If we, as content creators and business owners, lead the charge with open minds, curiosity, and excitement for the possibilities, who knows what fantastic advances the future of digital holds? My best advice: let’s go find out! Now, for your future business. How can you embrace and evolve in this digital whirlwind but still grow your business and better engage with the people you serve? My answer, and one of the ways I help clients, is to build and nurture relationships by creating personally engaging email marketing strategies as part of a concrete Content Marketing Plan. One of the most overlooked marketing tools, email strategy is often skipped completely or underutilized by businesses in their digital marketing efforts. But to me, this concept is THE KEY. And it has everything to do with how you treat people AFTER the sign-up, opt-in, buy, or joining your whatever. It’s the after-the-click experience you establish with anyone who says “yes” that matters most of all. How you nurture, interact, and connect genuinely to build an ongoing relationship makes all the difference to people who intersect with you. Ultimately, that difference results in business growth and brand affinity beyond any other marketing method because, firstly, you’re invited into someone’s inbox. Then, you’re given one-to-one access to that person with the chance to embrace and enhance the conversation now open to you.
