He engages himself into the world of urban farming/hobby farming and growing vegetables and fresh produce besides working as a fulltime employee in ACT. I'm your host, Sujan, and today we're taking a journey through time to explore the history of Australia's capital city—Canberra. Noteworthy points; 1. The Australian government organized an international design competition in 1911 to find a plan for the new capital. An American architect, Walter Burley Griffin, and his wife Marion Mahony Griffin, won the competition with their visionary design. Construction began in 1913. 2. The construction of the Old Parliament House in 1927 marked an important milestone in Canberra's development as the seat of government. Later, in 1988, the new Parliament House was opened, symbolizing Australia's maturity as a nation. 3. One hidden gem is the Calthorpes' House, a beautifully preserved example of an early 20th-century home. It provides a glimpse into the daily life of a middle-class family from that era. 4. One of the major projects undertaken by the NCDC was the creation of Lake Burley Griffin. Completed in 1964, the lake became a centerpiece of the city, providing recreational opportunities and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the surrounding areas. 5. In 1988, Canberra celebrated its 75th anniversary as the capital with the opening of the new Parliament House. This iconic structure, perched atop Capital Hill, showcases modern architecture and serves as a symbol of Australian democracy. Few examples of the major places to visit in Canberra to experience its history. Australian War Memorial: This iconic memorial honors the sacrifices of Australian servicemen and women. It features commemorative galleries, exhibits, and memorials that chronicle Australia's military history. Old Parliament House: Once the home of the Australian Parliament, this historic building now houses the Museum of Australian Democracy. Visitors can explore the chambers, learn about the country's political history, and participate in interactive exhibits. National Museum of Australia: This museum showcases the nation's social history, from Indigenous heritage to significant events and cultural achievements. Its exhibitions use immersive experiences and artifacts to tell captivating stories about Australia's past. National Gallery of Australia: Home to an extensive collection of Australian and international art, this gallery showcases works ranging from Indigenous art to modern and contemporary masterpieces. It provides a visual journey through Australia's artistic heritage. Canberra Museum and Gallery: This museum focuses on Canberra's local history and art. It offers exhibitions that explore the city's development, its cultural diversity, and the stories of its residents. Mount Ainslie: For a panoramic view of Canberra, visit Mount Ainslie. It offers a scenic lookout that overlooks the city and its surrounding landscapes. The site also has historical significance, as it was used for defense purposes during World War II.
