Getting Kids to Listen, Happy Home, Speech Therapy, Family Connection, Communication with Kids, Coaching Are you tired of repeating yourself with your children or wonder why they don’t listen? Are you frustrated that your kids argue, whine or debate with you? Are you afraid you are doing the wrong thing to manage behavior but you are not sure what to do? Hey parents, you don’t need to stay overwhelmed, exhausted, and triggered by the fuss. In this podcast, you will find solutions to …get kids to listen better with clear communication and boundaries that benefit kids. All while enhancing your relationships! My mission is to help puzzled, busy, worried parents read their child’s behavior as communication. When we understand what they are communicating, WE start to communicate differently. This is true of children with normal language development, children in dual language homes, and children with language delay. When your Language is Playful, you use words that allow for discovery, creativity, curiosity and exploration, which empowers and encourages. Connection is born. Connected kids are courageous and listen better. Connected kids have fewer meltdowns. Listen in to learn strategies for teaching and listening so that your child feels seen and heard and you build resiliency. Hello, my name is Dinalynn Rosenbush, mom, grandma, Speech Language Pathologist of over 25 years. I’ve worked with hundreds of children with speech & language delays and personally, navigated divorce and single parenting. Through training and my own struggles, I learned to use specific language in specific ways to build connection. I learned to teach AND USE better communication. Our communication is not only our words, but it is the feeling our children have when we speak with them. Let’s create a home where exploration is welcomed, mistakes are stepping stones, and practice is expected. Your kids know you are on their team. And, eventually, they will join your team! Because, what works for speech and language disabled children, simply works! I believe all parents should have access to these skills, not just specialists. It is my hope to give small nuggets of information in each episode to build your communication toolbox. So, if you are ready to build deep, meaningful connection AND create a more peaceful, productive and happy home. Listen in! Let’s interrupt the way you have been parenting. so that you CAN BECOME THE PARENT you WANT to be. I’m glad you are here! Dinalynn CONTACT: hello@thelanguageofplay.com

227 Child Not Doing As Told? Change Their Response With Concept Words
Hey Friends~  When we talk to our kids, we use words that represent whole concepts all the time.  We do it so spontaneously that it’s difficult to communicate without using such words.  When our kids don’t have a good repertoire of concept - type words, it makes it difficult for them to do as told, express themselves, or deliver a message, accurately.   Today we discuss what concept words are, why they are important  AND what you can do to increase understanding at home!  This is  the fun part!  You don’t need flashcards. You don’t need apps. You already have everything you need to teach these words—just by playing, talking, and living life with your child.  I am going to call attention to what you already have and know… so that you can be intentional when you are teaching them.  Always cheering you on!  Dinalynn CONTACT the Host, Dinalynn:  hello@thelanguageofplay.com   YOUR NEXT STEPS:   Register for Webinar: "Beyond Obedience: Unveiling the Power of Listening in Kids"  https://www.thelanguageofplay.com/kids-beyond-obedience-webinar   Sign up for the Newsletter:  https://dinalynnr.systeme.io/newsletter-optin 5 Ways To Get Your Kids To Listen Better: https://dinalynnr.systeme.io/7ca5ce43-d436ea91 21 Days of Encouragement:  https://dinalynnr.systeme.io/1-21signup To discuss working together:  https://calendly.com/hello-play/strategy-session For Workshops, Speaking Events, or Partnerships conversations, schedule a call: https://calendly.com/hello-play/discovery-session  or email me at: hello@thelanguageofplay.com   A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSOR!   The Center for Play & Exploration: Click here to set up a conversation with Director Dave Bindewald to help you generate new ideas and practices in your parenting, work, and life. 226 Constance Lewis: Using Colors To Get Through Big Feelings
Hey Friends~  BIG Feelings are so hard!  It’s confusing! And sometimes really disruptive.  Give yourself grace parents, become curious.   What if we could understand how our child felt by looking at the color that they chose to wear?  Wouldn’t that be amazing and helpful?!!Today’s guest decided to combine her child’s interests with colors to create a way to help him communicate better after an acquired language loss.  You will learn her story and how she helped her little one regain a way to communicate better again.  Many times we as parents want to get our kids out of their icky feelings. The reality is that we want our children to walk through their feelings and to feel their feelings. This is an important part to learning self-regulation. We must allow our children to experience their feelings.  Constance Lewis shares her story and the children’s book she wrote to support all children.   Always cheering you on, Dinalynn CONTACT the Host, Dinalynn:  hello@thelanguageofplay.com   ABOUT THE GUEST:   Constance Lewis, a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, began her career in neonatal intensive care before transitioning into roles as a discharge nurse, breastfeeding counselor, and childbirth educator. 221 Gina Prosch: Have You Built a Habit Of Interaction With Your Kids? How Do It And Why It’s Important
Hey Friends~  When we talk about a lot of stuff with our kids - the stuff that isn’t the important stuff; the stuff that is inconsequential, we develop the habit of interaction.  When 90% of your interactions are wonderful, and then the hard conversations that do necessarily come, won’t be as big of a deal. The Key:  have LOTS of conversations..  Why?  Because the inconsequential conversations have created a pathway to communicate.  You have cut a bedrock so that you can talk about the important stuff, too.   This is just one concept that you will  hear in this fantastic,  golden-ideas filled episode with author, Gina Prosch.  Other topics in this episode: How freedom happens when we don’t fear that failure.   Give kids information in ways they can understand. Helping children learn how to be gracious and forgiving.   Activities that push you to push yourself.. is PLAY.    Always cheering you on!  Dinalynn CONTACT the Host, Dinalynn:  hello@thelanguageofplay.com ABOUT THE GUEST:   Gina Prosch created #thisdaysjoy, a 10-year-long odyssey of looking for joy each and every day. 215 Suzanne Culberg: Downplayed and Dismissed? Seeking Help For Your Child
Hey Friends~ You know in your gut when things are not going right, even if you don’t have the words.  It’s even harder when you tell someone, but you are told that everything is fine… but you know SOMETHING IS UP.   This is the case for today’s guest.  She knew that her son needed more help in his sound development, but was constantly told everything was fine.   Started seeking help when her son was 18 months old, asking doctors, friends, family members, and more  and finally… when her son was 4, the school teacher called out the same concerns that mom knew all along.  She was validated and felt such relief. Now, she was empowered, having a direction to go for help!  If this is you, you know this is so frustrating!  Hang on for today’s story! And, if this is you, then you need a person who knows how to ask the questions, who knows how to probe what is actually happening with your child. Talk to me!  I can help.  And, whether or not we are a fit to work together, you will leave the conversation with a clearer understanding of what is going on,  how to talk about  it, and a next step. 214 Wonder About Stuttering and Fluency? Jason Heffler Shares What Is Helpful From Personal Experience
Hey Friends~  Speech confidence is important for adults and kids.   Whether you are speaking in public or saying your name in front of a class, we all want to speak with confidence and certainly that what we intend to say is what will come out.  Fluency is one area of speech and language development. Many, many kids stutter when they are rapidly expanding their vocabulary and language skills.  Many parents come to me and ask - what do I do?  Does my child stutter?   Today’s guest discusses fluency issues from a personal perspective.   So whether you have a toddler with a developmental stutter  or a teen who has been diagnosed with a fluency issue, this episode is for you!    Always cheering you on!  Dinalynn CONTACT the Host, Dinalynn:  hello@thelanguageofplay.com   ABOUT THE GUEST:   Jason Heffler is an author whose stories help young readers overcome speech disorders and fears around speaking. Drawing from his own childhood experiences growing up with and getting bullied for a stutter, he writes uplifting tales that build confidence in kids who lack self-esteem. His book 'Tongue Tied' is a resource to illustrate how speech issues do not define children. Doctors, parents and people who stutter have connected with the book’s unique message: that they do not need to be "fixed." Instead of chasing a cure, they’ve shared how liberating it is to embrace the truth that their voice—exactly as it is—can carry them through a life filled with all the same possibilities as others. The Language of Play - Kids that Listen, Speech Therapy, Language Development, Early Intervention
