The pregnant Schelleen and her husband Daniel discuss the recent Hulu series Shogun. They figure out how to use Japanese honorifics (sama? dono?). Daniel shares his recent discovery that exercising doesn't burn fat, and tries to articulate the difference between the masculine and feminine narrative arc. Schelleen rants about how to make fast food apps better.
Daniel and Jared discuss the story of Hara-kiri, a 1962 film directed by Masaki Kobayashi and its 2011 remake Hara-kiri: Death of a Samurai, directed by Takashi Miike. This film is deeply tragic and compelling, raising moral and cultural issues of biblical proportions. The story is set in 17th century feudal Japan, but its dealings transcend time and nation.

Welcome to another episode! Today Daniel sits down with his friend Larissa to discuss... *drum roll*... Barbie! (the movie). After seeing the film a handful of times, Daniel and Larissa want to unpack the messaging of the movie from a Christian perspective. Barbie brings up a lot of important cultural issues that resonate with Christians, but does the film offer a biblical solution to these problems? We covered a lot of ground in this episode: modesty, aesthetics, feminism, humanism, patriarchy, and more! You don't want to miss this one.
Note: We recorded this episode with a toddler in the room. We don't apologize for our little kiddo friends, but we did make some more edits than usual to help the recording flow better.
